Word choice, an essential element in the writing process, continues to haunt my work to this day. Words matter and should be used meticulously throughout the writing process. I often over exaggerate the words I use, which causes the reader to stumble, or question my meaning in the writing. For example, in my reflection for my review on the movie Pixels, I said that “frustration overwhelmed my thoughts and emotions.” This excessive approach only created a disconnection between my words and the audience. This over statement occurs far too often in my writing, and needs to be corrected by the use of dictionaries, thesauruses, and constantly reading books to enhance my vocabulary. Organization, or the internal structure of ideas, must have an intentional lead (opening paragraph), a well-developed body of information, and an ending that is logical and thoughtful. I believe a great example of where I accomplished this trait of effective writing can be seen in my review of the movie Pixels. My review established a main idea in the opening paragraph by using a hook and opinionated statement, then supported my claim with key examples in the body, and finished strongly in the conclusion by stating a call to action. I also effectively used transitions and concluding sentences; both key factors in enhancing the organization of the piece. In the future, I hope to continue my strength of organization in every paper I
