The book that I read for the literature circle was Schooled, by Gordon Korman. Korman was born on October 23, 1963 in Montreal, Canada, and grew up mostly in the Toronto area. He started writing when he was in 7th grade, where he wrote a novel and sent his manuscript to Scholastic. THIS CAN’T BE HAPPENING AT MACDONALD HALL got published by Scholastic when he was a freshman in high school, and then he just kept on writing every since. He has now written over 80 books, and his books have been translated into almost 30 languages and have sold over 25 million copies worldwide. He has a BFA degree from New York University with a major in Dramatic Writing and a minor in Film and TV. Korman lives on Long Island, just outside of New York City, with his wife and 3 kids. When he isn’t writing, he is either driving his kids to some practice/game or rehearsal, or on the road, appearing at schools, libraries and bookstores, meeting his readers. I found the book very interesting and fun to read. The main character in the book is Cap, and he is in 8th grade, but he is home schooled. He lives with his grandmother, Rain, and they live in Garland. The book starts out with Rain picking plums up in a tree, but then she falls out and has to be rushed to the hospital. There was no way she would be able to teach Cap for at least a great while, so they had to send Cap to a public school.
