Emily Dickinson is well known for her unusual poems, however during her life she wasn’t famous till after she passed away when her family started to find 1000’s of her poems stuff in tiny spaces all around the house. Dickinson’s writing wasn’t well understood during her time, she had a uniqueness that was ahead of her time; she had an amazing use of symbols, capitalism, themes and tones in her writing which make reading her poems so intriguing. While growing up she wasn’t the average women, she had her own thoughts and beliefs which is something I love about her which brings me to one of my favorite poems by her: “I’m Nobody! Who are you?”

In my interpretation of this poem the first line states “I 'm Nobody! Who are you? She is saying that in society if you are normal you are a somebody, so since she is different she is a nobody. The N is capitalized to emphasize that she is different, but society doesn’t see that as a good thing but rather bad. She uses an explanation at the end of the sentence which makes me think that she is happy or proud of who she is. Then she’s asking “Who are you?” which is self-explanatory; but right after being asked the question, in line two the poem says “Are you-Nobody-too”? The dashes after you and nobody can be used as a pause to make it seem like she is almost hesitant to ask us or that she already assumes that the person is a nobody and she thinks that it is too good to be true so she keeps pausing to make the no that she might get a little bit better. In line three it says “Then there 's a pair of us”! She answers her own question automatically assuming the person is a nobody and she’s excited about it that! A little part of me thinks that she may be talking to herself but we’ll never know. The forth line says “Don’t tell! they 'd advertise - you know”! She warns them to not tell because she knows that if you that if
