In Josh Sundquist’s book Just Don't Fall he covers many aspects of the average human and the way we go about things. One aspect that I like is he really strives to show the drive, and the urge to never give up no matter what circumstances you are presented with. After reading this book I really decided to rethink many aspects of my own life and questioned how determined am I to actually do stuff. One way I plan to apply this to my own life is by putting all my effort into something if i'm going to even bother with it in the first place. What I mean is I don't wanna half ass it if my names going to be on the paper.…

When my family was leaving for America, everyone was really sad. I understood that they were saddened because we were leaving, but I wasn’t. I was excited that we were about to go to the airport and actually go on an airplane. I knew that it was going to be a long time before I see my aunts, uncles, and cousins again, but I didn’t want my memory of my first flight to be filled me wiping tears from my eyes and worrying that I can’t find tissues for my running nose. I was instead very excited that we were about to go halfway around the world inside a big hunk of metal shaped like a bird.…

In his book What’s Wrong with the World, G.K. Chesterton states “If a thing is worth doing, it is worth doing badly.” Chesterton does not mean that if saving lives is worth doing, we should all run around with no medical knowledge trying to save lives, or that if our room needs cleaning, it is okay to clean it poorly. What he means is that if the more important things in life are worth doing, it is okay to do them poorly because it is more important that we do them rather than not do them at all. Up until my freshman year, I was a living a life that could be summed up in a version of the quote that would say “If a thing is worth doing, I should avoid it and someone else can do it instead because I am not the right person to be doing this thing.”…
