Songs are poems set to music. They come in all different varieties, genres and styles but often the message conveyed is similar. In modern music the message or theme usually relates to love or substance abuse. A few decades ago, the messages were comparable, and even though society was quite different then, the themes in music were relatively the same. Two such examples are “Come a Little Bit Closer” by Jay and the Americans and “A Woman Needs Love” by Ray Parker Jr. Both of these songs share a common idea of women cheating.…

Everyone in their teens had that craving of fast-food, but had the bad, regretful attitude afterwards when they felt sluggish and not happy. In the article “Don’t Blame the Eater” it explains the issues with fast-food, particularly in teens, and how parents are now suing fast-food companies because of the fast food making teens gain an extreme amount of weight. The author, David Zinczenko, was once this teen described as eating fast-food daily, joined the reserves and got involved with a health magazine and changed his daily life to a healthy life. Different people interpret RENT in different ways. Even the title has several different meanings. It represents the financial burden of young adults fresh out of college who are “thrown out into the real world where ideals don’t pay the rent”. But the title also sheds light on the lack of permanence of the characters’ lives — living month to month with no real promises. Colin and Angel sing to each other in “I’ll Cover You” that if love cannot be bought, at least it can be rented.…

One thing that stuck out from this article was in the Teaching section. The author explained that students learn best in “chunks” of 7-10 minutes. After a short explanation of a concept, allow students to perform a processing activity to apply this new knowledge. Repeat this process until the full lesson has been taught, and then a longer activity would be permissible. I can see how this would be useful with my 7th grade…

The advice the narrator's grandfather gives him is an attempt to empower the narrator. I think his reasoning for saying, "Let ‘em swoller you till they vomit or bust wide open" is to tell the narrator never give up. He wants him to keep going even if they can't stomach him any longer and to fight for what he believes in despite what other people's reactions are to it. Let people be sick of what the narrator does but that shouldn't make him stop what he's trying achieve.…

Easy to Comprehend, I found citations, the mechanics of style and grammar usage easy to comprehend even though I made an error of the question regarding quotes on the quiz. I was confused with APA standard 4:07 that states to “to set off the title of an article or chapter in a periodical or book when the title is mentioned in the text,” (APA, 2010. P.91). The rules for the mechanics of stlye are aligned to what I learned in my high school English classes, although APA rule 4.19 Names of Conditions or Groups in an expieriment was rather new to me, in that I haven’t run across this rule before.…

As people, we thrive on relationships with others. However many may agree that bringing down friendships takes much less effort than building them up. One harsh word or bitter action, and the friendship ends. In his song titled “I Want to Say I 'm Sorry,” Andrew Peterson covers this very theme. This song takes the form of an apology, and with it he expresses the sorrow of an argument which separated him and a close friend, and yet gives hope at the end.…

Ernest Hemingway’s “Now I Lay Me” (1927) covers the effects of post traumatic stress disorder on Nick after he is wounded in the war. Nick suffers from some form of panic as his mind creates a severe terror after he is bombed in the night. Unable to sleep because he is afraid of dying, Nick instead chooses a form of self-care which relies heavily on his own memory of scenes from his life before the war, his religion and his favorite pre-war pastime. While it seems that Nick is coping with his newfound fear of death via remembering life before the war, he is actually reverting to a childish version of himself in which he is no longer at war. As John attempts to convince him of the benefits of marrying an Italian girl, Nick is still unable to…
