I Love To Hire People With Down Syndrome

Employment is a key element towards independence for people with Down syndrome as is the case with most anyone. However the way to employment can be tasking and stressful for any individual. Fewer than two in 10 people with learning disabilities are employed and only 35 percent actually work but this has steady rose since 2012. This used to be twenty percent just two years ago. Many company have actually started to hire more people with a disability. We actually love to hire people with a disability, they just have a better work ethic and are super friendly says the David Dillion the owner of Kroger. He also though they many hire people who have Down syndrome he reports that there is little in place to help them through the hiring process and such. “They just simply don’t know or don’t think they can work” he says. Most companies who have started to hire a person with Down syndrome pay for taxis to come to work for them. For example, Katy Hull is a college graduate, a smart employee and most importantly, a tax payer. When she was in high school, she decided that I wanted to go to college. So with the help of a transition team they had at her high school, this dream became a real thing to her. Some are desperate to gain experience of work that they opt to do volunteer work instead. Sara Pickard is a person who has Down syndrome who does volunteer work at a local charity. She states that it is a great way to demonstrate skills that could be applied in the workplace.     Personally, the section of G. Thomas Couser’s piece, Disability, Life Narrative, and Represention that truly made an impression on me was on page 456, when he writes “Although it is as fundamental an aspect of human diversity as race, ethnicity, gender, and sexuality, it is rarely acknowledged as such.” I was almost unsettled after reading this statement, as I realized that I myself fall into the vast population that is essentially uniformed about disability.
