In those scenarios that call for thorough contemplation and logic, Hamlet is impulsive. For example, he rashly kills Polonius, mistaking him for Claudius. This inconsistent approach stands in stark contrast to Edgar’s methods. Indeed, Edgar’s thoughts have always been “bloody,” and without the power of voice, he is able to prepare effective plans. All actions have consequences, and sometimes one’s greatest vice is not listening to the whole precipice (meaning, lesson) in the advice (actions) from others. For example, in the play, Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, Polonius gives Laertes various pieces of advice before Laertes departs for France. Many of which are applicable to a multitude of characters throughout the play, and the characters who are not present while the advice is given may have benefitted from the messages that Polonius gives in his speech. However, the characters that are present to hear the advice, Polonius and Laertes, have the great advantage over other characters because they have…

He ventures even farther into evil when he seduces the old queen, his sister-in-law and uses her as well on his path to kingship. Despite Claudius’ declaration of guilt, he admits that he is still benefiting from his sins, and chooses power and greed over salvation: “That cannot be; since I am still possess’d of those effects for which I did the murder, my crown, mine own ambition, and my queen” (4.3, 57-59). Claudius is also a master manipulator and uses it to get his ways. Even so, Macbeth’s resolve to carry out this crime is shaky at best. Once his wife gets into his ear, however, that shaky resolution is ever so slowly strengthened.
