I dashed to the front of the net, expecting Jacob to take it around and pass. I was right, or so I thought. He took the puck around, intentionally drawing some defense, then fired it through the crease, in front of which I stood. I fired it over the pads, and it hit the net, rolling around for a few seconds before the goalie swept it out for the ref to take.
GOAL!

“I enjoy playing hockey, in fact I am great at hockey,” as Donald Trump would say, although I am not great. I am good, but have many things to learn; last year I shot pucks every day in my garage because I could barely shoot and pass, not to mention scoring goals; now I can score, pass, skate well, and stick-handle. It is something to which I can come back whenever I feel as if I am bad at everything I try to do, because I’m not bad at everything!

My domination of easily breezing by my neighbors in street hockey and always ranked at the top of stat sheets for scoring in recreational hockey, abruptly ended when I joined my first competitive travel hockey team. My first game exemplified the setbacks my fear imposed on my team when I frighteningly moved out of the way of an enormous player to grant him a free pass to the net in which he scored the game winning goal. Shamefully looking at me as if I were an ally of the other team, I became alienated after my team after they began the tradition of…
