The Genderbread Cookie states “Gender is one of those things that everyone thinks they understand, but many don’t.” This shows how many people feel like they know what they’re talking about, but actually don’t. Being in a marginalized group can cause you to miss out on things you love. When Noah and Jude’s mom says “All I ever wanted for you kids is the stability I didn’t have growing up.” It illustrates how she does not want the to deal with these problems. If there was an openly gay person on a sports team, many of the less acceptant people on the team may be uncomfortable with changing around you or you just being there in general. This can cause you to not want to, or possibly not even allowed to participate on the team, even if it is something you really enjoy. Also, even though a lot of new legislation has made it easier for someone who is openly gay to serve in the military, there is still a stigma around you and it would not be an identical experience to someone who was heterosexual and serving. Even though you are making the same sacrifices and risking your life just the same, there will still be those who do not believe you should be able to be there and will not accept
