This painting does not have a lot of different things, or people going on like the ones done by William Hogarth in Marriage-A-La-Mode. Instead, the painting I named Our Government is solely showing two things; at the very top is showing a view of the White House, and the Washington Monument, and at the bottom of the White house connected to the Washington Monument is Pinocchio’s nose. In this satire art clearly the artist is showing the viewers what the government consists of in his opinion. In addition, not only is the top of the painting showing the White House, but it also shows a beautiful site; green grass, no cracks on the upper part of the painting, perhaps one can say that the sun is lighting the part involving only the upper part of the painting. In contrast, in the bottom portion of the painting Pinocchio’s wooden body is lying on the ground, and the entire lower side is of one solid brown color, with what can be describe a more rougher texture than the upper part of the portray. Another, interesting pointer is that Pinocchio’s face seems to have a bit of a smirk. In this satirical art it is evident how the artist feels about the government, I believe he thinks the government lies to the citizens, and keeps up a good front that everyone buys. Holcrof utterly places this painting for today’s society because so much monetary supply is going towards the cigarette’s suppliers, and also when we think about how much people are physically been affected by the habit of smoking, again so much money is been spend for medical expenses that could have being avoided if no smoking was present in the individual to begin with. According to USA today about 18% of Americans smoke, and although this rate has been decreasing, it is establish in the article that 80 percent of deaths cause by lung cancer and coronary heart disease it is solely due to smoking.
