Wardell explains how he was using the dead animal to show how there is no longer a loving relationship between nature and humans like there used to be (2006). While explaining paintings to the hare, Beuys was demonstrating how it was like an external organ of the human being, meaning that it could understand art in a way that people could not (Wardell 2006). In a sense, I believe that he was also trying to show how you don’t necessarily be intelligent to understand art, but rather be open to the experience of it
