Reflective Essay: If I Dropped Out Of School

For example, I developed severe anxiety and depression at the age of fourteen. If I were to dropped out of school at that time I am unsure of whether I would have found the motivation to earn my GED, much less continue onto a higher education. Another example, which happened often for my classmates in high school, would be the effects of becoming pregnant while still in school. Even during my short two and a half years at Radford University, I have experienced classmates becoming pregnant and not returning to school after giving birth. I think if I were to have gotten pregnant in high school, it would have ended similarly to if I had dropped out of school at the age of fourteen. In my opinion, any amount of time of stopping my schooling would have led to me losing all of my motivation. Although, they did heavily influence the person I am today. Every day they continue impacting me on why, how, and who we are based on different factors. The main factor that has stayed in my head and close to my heart since I was a child was treating others how you want to be treated. It was not until high school when these words really clicked in my head. At that time I finally learned that sometimes you had to walk away from friendships that were not genuine. Throughout my four years in high school I learned, as cliché as it is, what a true friend was and who, of my lifelong friend group, was a true friend. Needless to say, I lost some friends in high school and I continued losing more as I moved onto the newest chapter of my life; life in college. Losing friends has also given me the opportunity to find amazing new friends who are genuine and do treat me how I want to be, and how I deserve to be,
