I didn’t realized how difficult my parents had it because they couldn’t speak English, so they couldn’t follow their dreams. They had to take any jobs that they could in order to support three children. My parents didn’t have much, but they were able to provide us with what they needed. Because of how I was raised, I’ve come to appreciate the small things in life, food on a table, a bed to sleep in, warm blankets etc. Before, I was angry that I didn’t have the same things as some of my friends did and I realize now how selfish I was. I want my parents to be proud, I want to go to college, obtain a successful career and buy a house for them. My grandfather has gone through so much in his life, yet I never bothered to ask about it until now. Growing up, he faced a lot of challenges due to poverty. Through this project, I was able to understand him more than just a grandfather. I believe that my grandpa greatly influenced my mother because she has always been appreciative of everything and has taught me to be the same. It has made me realize that most of my ancestors didn’t have the same opportunities I have, and that I could be the first in the family to do many extraordinary things.
