I Learn Aurally

Decent Essays
After taking the assessment I learned that the best way I learn is Aurally. This means that I learn by listening combined with having the opportunity to ask questions and discuss the lesson. I would agree that this is one way I like to learn. I know that when I am working with a consumer, I am a very curious person and love to ask questions. I do this in order to learn as much as I can about the person and what is important to them. The VARK websites suggest when I learn that I make sure to discuss the topic with others and also connect it with a story or joke to help the learning process.

As my interviewees were explaining to me their opinions and views, I noticed a lot of connections between what they were saying and what I have learned or talked about in class. There is never a bad question when there are discussions in class, and the questions themselves are valued more than the answers. My professor uses a variety of teaching methods because each student has a Personal Learning Plan and different learning preferences. This is seen in our “What’s MY Style?” mini assignment from week one, where we learned about our personal metacognitions.…

For some students, time to look over the material taught in class at their own pace is critical to success. Time to think about what has been taught and process what was discussed in the lecture, can greatly increase a child’s chance to pass an assessment, but they were not given this time. If a student can go through it on their own, they can determine what aspects they seem to be struggling with and go to someone for help. This can also allow the student to go at their own pace. Going at their own pace can allow for extra…

Trying to truly remember when I learned to read is kind of difficult especially starting at very young age. I do remember my grandmother telling me that my reading skills were very good compared to others who started out like I did. When my siblings heard about how good my reading skills were, they encouraged me to read more books so I could get more practice. Since I was always around my grandmother, reading had become interesting…

Learning can be interpreted in many ways to different individuals, although to me learning is about gaining knowledge and embracing every experience encountered and linking it to any task. Also I would explain that being open minded is a strong attribute to apply during the learning process. During my week one I stated that learning is to open and broaden an individual’s mind on subjects to gain knowledge or skills, and I’ve grown to realize its more than that. People can learn using different methods and be more responsive to one rather than the other. I am a Strong-Willed learner.…

After researching ideal reading methods for auditory learners. It turns out that using audiobooks can be considered a great way of engaging with books or text. Personally, if I am not reading the book or text out loud, I tend to skip over lines, or even a few paragraphs; because I can quickly lose interest. However, when I use audiobooks, I am more motivated to stay focused. Furthermore, The other method that I find most appealing in lesson 3 was the (SQ3R) which stands for survey, question, read, recite and review.…

In my head, the human body is a map with things I know well lit-up brightly, and the other dim places flickering in to place as I progress through my courses. The assigned readings are kind of a necessary evil in some cases in that they are not very exciting, but they build that base knowledge for the supplemental material of each class to build upon. To me, Learning cannot be defined in one way, as everybody learns in a slightly different way. As we have learned during the course of this class, the LCI scores can help provide valuable insight in to your specific learning patterns. So to begin explaining to somebody what learning is, I would have them first take the Learning Connections Inventory. This would give a basic understanding of how they learn as an individual. I would then explain to them how to apply those learning patterns in everyday learning situation.…

So far my students practice the ability to apply it to new learning. For instance, when students have learned a skill that’s presented to them, they explore other ways of learning the skill or seeking new additional information. As a teacher leader I plan on improving my technique of inquiry based learning by guiding students to track their learning by setting ongoing goals to learn about the skill. Students learn responsibility and become accountable for their on development and growth. For example, students will have to periodically report new information they discovered about a particular topic or skill to their peers.…
