The autobiography I selected is I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou. This book follows the author through her childhood as she struggles to find herself in a world full of prejudice. With an absentee father and an unready mother Maya and her brother were shipped of to Stamps, Arkansas where they lived with their orthodox grandmother, thus forcing Maya to become a woman before she could even become a child. I chose to read this book out of a recommendation from Mrs. Dipede, and to unravel the true meaning behind the metaphor of a title. The dominant voice the author uses is first person narrative.
