How many people in the classroom have ever thrown a Football before? And if you have, do you think most of your throws consisted of perfect spirals, or tangled messes? Today, I would like to show you how to properly throw a Football. Now, you might be thinking to yourself right now, “Why would I ever need to know how to do this?” You might have friends or relatives presently, or future siblings that are, or will be, enthusiastic about Football, but they don’t know how to throw. I’ve been around Football all my life; playing Midget-League Football when I was in Elementary school, playing in the High School football team, and having the opportunity to watch a couple of professional football games in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; So, you could say that I know my fair share of the sport. Footballs are made of leather and laces, and you can use this to your advantage, if you know where to place your hand. Have your index finger over the seam, while your thumb is underneath. Your middle, ring, and pinky fingers should be crossing the laces of the ball. Make sure that your index finger and thumb are in the shape of the letter “L”. Hold the ball lightly with your fingertips, not your palms. Also, you will be able to adjust your grip more easily if you keep your grip loose, but firm. Form is everything when you throw a Football. You need to know how to position yourself correctly depending on how far away your target is from you. So, let’s add onto what we know so far. Turn to the side of your dominate hand (left, right) and face 90 degrees away from your intended target. Get into a throwing stance, like if you’re throwing a dart or paper plane. Your pivot foot, which is the opposite of your throwing arm, should point towards your target. Also, keep the ball just behind your ear in case you need to throw it
