On both their essays “I Just Wanna Be Average” written by Mike Rose and “The Achievement of Desire” written by Richard Rodriguez show their starting point that leads them to be percipient to a higher degree of an average person. Mike and Richard both had determination towards school even though mike was placed in a vocational class for the reason that there was a mistake in the system because his last name was exactly the same as someone else’s he put up with it and went through the classes without hesitating. Rose saw many students who stood out and when asked for working hard to reach achievements Ken Harvey replied with “I Just Wanna be Average”(187) Personally I interpreted that as something that is a strong topic for students now especially in high school even if you do extraordinarily well and have amazing grads compared to someone who just got by and didn't try as hard, you will still end up with the same degree as well as most likely go to the same college.
