You Can’t Know Where You’re Going Until You Know Where You Have Been Those words ruminated in my head for months. Where did I come from? What was my story? What am I going to do with my life?! In my childhood, and well into early adulthood, I often thought about what I wanted to be when I grew up. For many years, I wanted to be a veterinarian and help animals heal. At other times I wanted to be a teacher and work with children. During high school, I wanted to be a school counselor and help “troubled” students like myself. There always seemed to be so many options, and making the choice was daunting. I have evaluated my life at different stages, adopting values and gaining insight along the way through personal and professional relationships. Collectively, these have guided me on my path and provided me with the foundation for being a healer. Turning Point. In 2010, I was in Palo Alto having sangria with a good friend. I was upset that evening and found comfort in drinking. As the night came to an end, my mood hadn’t improved. It was worse - I was angry and annoyed, and drunk. As I headed back to my car, a female officer stopped and asked if I needed a ride. I told her “no” and she drove off. …show more content…
I was dragging along from the medications and the therapist’s answer was to increase the dose. I disagreed and declined a change in dosage. I continued attending sessions and group counseling. I asked her to talk more about the program and asked the therapist why they hadn’t referred me there. The counselor recited his answer and I became more upset with my experience. I spoke with the woman after our group session ended and received a number for CDRP. She assured me that I would benefit from it and I thanked her for the

When considering what career I wanted to achieve I was given a substantial amount of advice; starting with choosing something that you are passionate about and ending with researching everything you can about what you want to do. I couldn't agree more, sometimes I think to myself as well if I have any repressed memories that impact my personality. I never used to be so compulsive or expressive, but I think that has to do with a defense mechanism of mine. I know I have some repressed memories that have molded my personality to be more defensive at times, although I don't like that myself, I do feel it is a defense mechanism to be guarded for protection. I honestly did the same thing with the denial mechanism with my best friend during high school. I was in denial because of my friends passing just wasn't acceptable, and when people approached or confronted me, I pretended as though he was on a long vacation.…

I eventually chose what I thought would be a good stable career simply because it would be a financially good choice but it never seemed like something I could stick with or love. I discounted anything from the medical field because everyone was going there and I didn't want to be a lost number of people rushing to the same career, I wanted to be a little different.…

During the hike I thought a lot about my summer reading, but sadly it didn't help me face the monster... During July of 2015 I was reading Into Thin Air while driving down south. While there, my family went on a hike that was on a smaller scale of Everest, but still gave me many lessons to take away from it. It was a short but scenic drive from the place we were staying to the long, treacherous trail. My brother and I started walking at a faster pace than our parents so we arrived at the first obstacle before our parents.…

I have always dreamed of the day where I would be tearing through the skies at seven hundred knots in an F-16.
