The “I-Hate-Book-Reports” Book Report: Part 1
The Perks of Being a Wallflower is more of a life story. In this book, Charlie writes journals, he talks about his day and tells us how he feels. How this book is written is very similar to what we teenagers would experience in everyday life, it’s very realistic. Charlie experiences drugs, sex, romance, and the typical things you would expect for a 16 year old kid; he was mostly excited to get his license. At points Charlies’ life is tragic; he’s very alone and he overthinks some times. He has two main friends, Patrick and Sam. They are siblings that are in senior year. They take care of Charlie but also get him into drugs and parties, etc. Charlie loves them but he particularly gets feelings for Sam. He loves her very much, but she has a boyfriend which makes Charlie jealous but he cares for her happiness so he decides to ignore it. Charlie is a wallflower, someone who sees things, understands, and doesn’t bring it up. Charlie is a very unique person, he feels infinite or he feels nothing at all.

There are points in the book that have so much suspense which makes me want to read more. When I feel sad I feel so alive because the book is like something I can relate to which makes me feel not alone. It also makes me feel happy because I feel as if I have a connection with Charlie, as if we’re friends; whenever something good happens to him or whenever he is happy I also feel happy. This book is more of a realistic almost stereotypical teenage life with a lot of cliffhangers and suspense. You feel excited or really happy when there is about to be some action. It isn’t a boring book, I would say it’s great for teens, maybe even young adults since the era was set way back

The book that I read was called Not My Type by Melanie Jacobson, it has 225 pages. It took me a little under a month to finish this book. The things that I learned in this book is that people aren't always who they say they are. You need to learn to earn trust rather than just giving it out to anyone. When Pepper (main character) gets her wedding called off by her fiance (Landon)her parents paid off the debt from the wedding.…

When I was in ninth grade, my history teacher, Mr. Horne, stopped me after class and handed me a mildly tattered book. “This book will change your mind,” he told me, referencing what I had told him the day before. “You will understand that being the smartest person you know won’t work out well emotionally.” I ended up hooked, in tears, and a completely changed person after reading Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes. The movie adaption, Charly, directed by Ralph Nelson, was far less moving.…

The Effects of Sexual Abuse in Perks of Being a Wallflower Charlie, the lead character in Stephen Chboksy’s Perks of Being a Wallflower, has a best friend who committed suicide the year before he would have entered high school with him. The reason is never revealed in Perks, but it can be inferred he had family troubles. This is considered a realistic scenario in our society. Suicide is the second leading cause of death in people age fifteen to nineteen, and as a society, people have recently come together and recognized it as a problem that must dealt with, and it has been deemed “mainstream” enough to be considered appropriate to talk about in teenage literature. Why, then, is sexuality and the abuse that can come with it - a problem nearly…

Charlie goes through or is affected by all of these things throughout the entirety of the text. The death of his aunt and friend, and the history of sexual abuse in the lives around him both had a massive effect on Charlie and his mental health, and were paramount in the development of his depression and sculpting who he is today.…

Coming of age novels quite often deal with Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalytical theory. Stephen Chbosky’s novel, The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a superlative piece of work which holds remarkable representations of Freud’s theories.
