On the morning of September 29, 2015 I had the privilege of job shadowing Heather Wortman, Mrs. Wortman is a Special Education Teacher at O.H.S (Ontario High School). When I got to the high school she had asked me to meet her in the main office, as I sat in the office I contemplated what Mrs. Wortman would have me do during the course of the job shadow, just then she walked entered the office and greeted me with a warm handshake and smile from this point she took me to her first period class where she introduce d’s me to the head math teacher of the class Tyson Beggs and to the students in the class. While Mr. Beggs was teaching a lesson of fractions Mrs. Wortman had me correct an assignment called a warm up of which consisted of four mathematical …show more content…
Wortman and I attempted to make our way through the mass accumulation of students which filled the halls of O.H.S to the brim, at this point in the Job Shadow I had not realized how many students actually attended the high school at one time. The name of the second period class was Employment Readiness, this class is meant to help reaffirm the basic skills of life such as hygiene which was the topic that day. Mrs. Wortman had the students either work with a partner or by themselves on making a poster that they had to put the do’s and don’ts of hygiene but all of a sudden the fire alarm went off the sound of the alarm was like someone blowing a sports whistle in your ear as loud as possible, this of course forced all classes to vacate the building and go to the football field for a space in time of ten minutes to make sure that every student was out of the building. After the drill we went back inside where Mrs. Wortman took me on a tour of the entire high school campus from the new Science Building to the Ag. Shop. Before I had never realized large of a campus Ontario was it was larger than I …show more content…
“One of the aspects I enjoy the most is I like seeing them be successful in their life instead of just falling into the cracks of society, and the aspect I dislike the most is having to see the students try and hide the signs of abuse and having to make the dreaded phone call to have child services come and remove the child from their home.
The last question I inquired her about was how has working in this field changed you?
“Well it has definitely made my patience’s levels increase by far patience’s in one major trait you must possess in this field along with “rhino skin” what I mean with that is some of the kids say stuff that can be hurtful if you don’t have rhino skin. Another thing is it really opened my eyes to the hardships that some of the students go through every day.”
After I finished the interview it was time for me to leave even though I didn’t want to I had to at that point it was time for lunch, as I left Mrs. Wortman escorted me out and welcomed me to come back if I wanted to which I was glad to hear. This job shadow was the best experience I have ever

Prior to the UNI Career Fair, I did some research on the University website to try to figure out which booths I was interested in visiting. The Lutheran Services in Iowa booth wasn’t one that was particularly on my list. This company is a non-profit organization that helps people who are struggling to parent children with behavioral or mental health issues. I wasn’t exactly sure what Lutheran Services In Iowa was all about until I walked past their station, and saw words on a poster saying “help children” and “family focus”.…

It was the middle of August 2013 when I first met her; she was the band director for my new school. I remember walking through the double doors of the electives hallway, very anxious and nervous to try out for my position in the band. My mother and I reached the door to the band director's’ office, where we were greeted by a tall middle aged woman. On this day, I would begin to know this woman as Mrs. Troutman. I would soon lose my feeling of uneasiness as she began to speak to my mother and I, she gave the first impression of a woman who was very easy to approach and great to be around.…

It was exactly 1:37PM when a call from the main office came through over the PA System that I was to report to the office to be released to my mom’s companion, Barbara. When I interviewed a client to create an occupational profile during this fieldwork experience, I determined that an appropriate assessment tool to use was the Barth Time Construct (BTC) because my client expressed that he would rather complete certain occupations that he wants to do versus completing occupations that he needs to do. So, when I provided my rationale to my supervisor, my supervisor agrred to the rationale, but introduced me to another assessment tool, similar to the BTC, which was the Occupational Questionnaire. This assessment tool was preferred over the BTC because the BTC would require more than one person to complete and it would be too time consuming. When I administered the Occupational Questionnaire, my client was able…

At the end of a gym class, my classmate named Justin was about to face the worst possible punishment: he would lose his entire sticker chart and have no free time for a week. This was because our PE teacher was going to report him to Mrs. Hadyk. The problem in my mind was that I hadn’t seen him do a single thing wrong during that class. Now, he and I had barely shared a single social exchange outside required partner work, and he was known to misbehave on a regular basis, but this time I just felt awful for him because he hadn’t done anything to deserve these consequences. It was milling in my mind until we got back to our classroom, and when everyone was back in the classroom, I asked Mrs. Hadyk if I could talk to her in the hallway alone.…
