In the novel, Overachievers: The Secret Lives of Driven Kids, author, Alexandra Robbins, argues that it is not good for the students to be under an extreme amount of pressure in school and I certainly agree with this statement. Parents are often the ones who place an excessive amount of pressure on their children to succeed, even starting before they are born. This pressure that parents place on their children can lead to immoral behavior, such as cheating. The overachieving students may come across as perfect on the outside, but by having so much pressure placed on them to be perfect, they may get into a mindset where they focus too much on comparing their standardized test scores and GPAs with other students’, causing them to be left feeling…
One of the questions dealt with asking about what he viewed as distractions. By asking this question, it led him to discuss some of the issues that he was dealing with at home, such as his parents’ divorce and their custody issues. This helped guide the conversation and helped me start to understand why he may have been acting the way he was. However, there were some questions that I wished I would have asked during the assessment. I do not believe that I fully discussed with him about how he felt about his homework and his grades.…
Summary In “Children Need to Play, Not Compete,” Jessica Statsky tells about the harm that sports cause and how much the children are expected to show up. They are asked to perform much higher than their physical capacity. This causes severe mental issues. It always remains there, the expectations their parents have from them and also the stress or pressure they get from the fellow teammates.…
“High expectations are the key to everything.” This quote by Sam Walton, who claims how these expectations tend to inspire and courage us to achieve higher in life and nobody else can prevent from doing it if we have desire to do it. Every parent has had expectations and goals for their children’s that play a huge role in their life in shaping a better opportunities and future. In the novel, Hotel on the corner of bitter and sweet by Jamie Ford, he describes how Henry’s father have a lot of expectations for his son, how he wants him to go to all-white school as a scholar student, become like an American person. These expectations created a lot of conflicts with their relationship with each other, sometimes high expectations from parents can…
Parental expectations are a reality in almost everyone’s life and they often either place great stress on the children or turn them into careless individuals without a sense of achievement. A hands off parent will likely impose low expectations on their children; this child will live a carefree life where they are required to impose their own structures and life goals while also maintaining a positive yet shallow relationship with their parent. On the other hand, another student’s parent’s may have high expectations of them and expect them to be a straight A student and ranked in the top five of their class. This student will likely be constricted to a tight box and feel the need to constantly gain their parents approval which will put them…
“The multiple choice format used on standardized test is an inadequate assessment tool. In encourages a simplistic way of thinking in which there are only right and wrong answers, which doesn’t apply in real-world situations” (Sacks, 1). The children need to be pushed to problem solving, such as they would use in real life. Not right or wrong answers. One could easily guess the answer to a question and get it right, but that most definitely does not mean the child understands the content.…
Describe your role with parents and/or caregivers. Please describe the way in which your supervising profession approaches intervention with young children as well as their role with parents. I have not yet interact with parents. I just observe my supervising professional while she is interacting with parents. She greets them every day on the morning and ask about the child mode.…
Good morning, I am writing you today because I am concerned about my final grade. I was looking at my grade on blackboard, and my participation grade is 10 out of 10 points; instead of 20 out of 20 points; based on what the syllabus reads. Also, my finial paper is not graded on blackboard. On the syllabus, it says the course is out of 400 points total. I do not understand how my grades are added in blackboard.…
As a teacher, what can you do to help your students deal with this pressure? The history of African American’s is acknowledged to be one of the most unjust in society. Tracing back to the early 1600’s where slavery first surfaced, African Americans were brought to America to do free labor. In chapter three of Deculturalization and the Struggle for Equality by Joel Spring, it is explained that education was highly denied to slaves due to fear that plantation owners had of a rise in rebellion against them.…
Whether we like to admit it or not, college pressures face a large majority of the youth population. William Zinsser makes a few well-rounded points concerning these post-secondary struggles in his essay, “College Pressures.” The pressures that are mentioned in the essay are grouped into four classifications: economic, parental, peer, and self-induced. For starters, William Zinsser quotes, “They want a map - right now - that they can follow unswervingly to career security, financial security, and presumably, a prepaid grave.” This thought process of a student is very sad indeed.…
“Hey dad, I got a B- on my math test.” “Hmm, not bad, but you can do better.” This is just one of the reasons why I don’t voluntarily tell my parents when I have a test or quiz, or how I did on it. Kids today are under too much pressure to succeed in school from their parents. It is a changing the way kids view school.…
The first scenario that I choose and think is more common than it should be, but a very realistic situation is: “I want to talk to your principal. If you were doing your job properly, there would not be a problem with Melvin. She should know how incompetent you are.” This statement could pertain to a few different situation that could lead up to it. One is the child might not be doing that well in the class and the parents are blaming the teacher, because they know that their child can do much better, but it is the teacher and the environment there that the child cannot develop educationally.…
Children go to school so they can learn and be taught a variety of subjects by a teacher qualified to teach them, alternatively to the lessons parents give their children when growing up at home. Parents however who decide to homeschool may say it is because they don 't trust the board of education to teach their children properly, but what they don 't realize is that they aren 't necessarily qualified unless they have a teacher 's license, even if it 's technically legal to teach your children without one. Teaching when your own personal views prevents children forming their own opinion does not help children, and that biased education starting at a young age can affect their interpretation of everything thereafter. When parents decide to…
information the child sends to the Wildlife federation will be reviewed and with that data they will be able to track the health and behavior of wildlife and plant species nationwide. These and many other similar activities allowed us to spend time together as a family, learn new concepts, and understand our surroundings. Using Mnemonics to Help Children Remember Facts Mnemonics are simply strategies that could be used to aid information retention. Note that although it is best to learn the material by understand the concept, at times certain facts can only be learned with memorization.…
