There are two options for an answer to the question “Can you please forgive me?” and they are I forgive you and I don’t forgive you. By saying “I forgive you”, one is not accepting or excusing the act done, but they are willing to get around that bump in the road to reach closure. In fact, “you may be entirely justified in hating the person who abused you, but hate keeps you chained to the person you despise” (70). When Maeve was nine, her father “came into the bathroom when she was showering and had her perform oral sex on him” (72). He convinced her that it was just their “special time” (72) seeing as she wouldn’t know at that age that he was doing something heinous and

In Kitchen Table Wisdom, Dr. Rachel Remen offers countless stories demonstrating the importance of creating a medical environment that fosters intimacy, vulnerability, and a willingness to accept the hardest moments of human life. In Remen’s book, these moments all center around death and dying. Through storytelling, Remen is able to illuminate the hidden stories and feelings associated with death, the uncertainty of death, and the fear of losing a loved one. Remen demonstrates that only by breaking away from the bureaucratic and emotionless medical narrative, and instead, by simply offering open ears and a hand to hold for those who are most afraid, can create a sense of inner-peace and an acceptance of death for those dying of terminal illnesses.…

Throughout this entire article, “Don’t Blame the Eater” by David Zinczenko, Zinczenko tells his readers how we as a society shouldn’t put all of the blame for young adults and children getting fat on them. We need to put more of the blame in this situation on the fast food restaurants not the “eaters.” Zinczenko admits he was one of these kids, his father was out of the picture trying to fix his life, and his mom was having to work a full time job to pay the bills. So lunch and dinner for him was an option between McDonald’s, Taco Bell, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and Pizza. He admits that times have still not changed much since then and still in today’s society these are the only options for younger people to get affordable meals that are left…

‘Oh, Oh, You Will Be Sorry’ by Edna St. Vincent Millay is a poem telling a story about the sexist expectations set for women in the 1900s. This was a time in which women’s roles were rapidly and immensely changing due to them performing traditionally male tasks and occupations as the men were fighting in the war. Consequently, women started to realise that they too could work, provide and be educated and so many gained feminist ideas and resentment for the patriarchy. A lot of them defied their ascribed roles regardless of the backlash that would come from this. In Millay’s poem she takes the persona of one of these women and tells her story through the use of poetic techniques such as structure, irony, tone, anaphora, alliteration and dialogue.…
