Reflection: My Best Writer

Improved Essays
I don’t consider to be the best writer in the world, neither to be the worst writer in the world. I have come about many strategies, learning process, and more techniques to become what is called a “better writer”. As a writer I can say that I love my paper to stand out and to make the reader say, “Wow!” because what’s the point of writing a paper or story that is boring and makes the reader fall asleep. As a writer in this course I believed that I have improved tremendously and I have dedicated an enormous amount of time to the writing process throughout this semester compared to my previous years of writing. Writing for me is not easy, but I have adapted to some techniques that has helped me with my writing. I use a layout before I write in order to gather my ideas before I begin to write, I start writing my introduction and conclusion before I complete the body of my essay, and I read over my …show more content…
It is hard for me when I have to write about something I am not interested or can relate to at all. This was a harder semester compared to my first because we had to read and focus on analytical writing on readings which was quite more difficult to understand and interpret. I rather write about things I love to do, or something that actually has made sense to me because it will reduce the amount of stress and help me get over the assignment quicker. My main goal in writing is to become an expert like Professor Shil, well at least somewhat close to him. He has great writing techniques and can detect many errors that you have in your paper which is something I would like to improve when it comes to my writing, Lastly, rewriting these essays, multiple times in this class made me excel great knowledge in my writing and I think I will be more prepared for my future career path. I will continue to try harder each and every day to improve my academics and my ability to become a better

My mind feels like a 1000 piece puzzle missing a piece. I can’t simply find the right words to say to start this paper. It is always like this when freewriting; the idea of freewriting in and of itself frightens me. Never able to put the words in my head onto paper in a way that it can be read eloquently by others. My hands start to cramp automatically at the idea of freewriting.…

Surviving English Comp 1 Writing Class Writing is one thing I hate the most. It was hard to write an essay for the first time because I did not have the knowledge or concept of this writing style. Before this class, I thought I knew what writing was all about by expressing my thoughts, ideas and feeling. I know now that I had the wrong concept on how to write. I can express my thoughts, ideas and feeling, but if I put them in the wrong contents it does not lead the reader to the point of the essay.…

I have always struggled with writing essays and they’ve never come easily to me. I used to sit in my room, in the middle of the night, just staring at a screen, for what would feel like hours. Wondering, “When am I going to finish this paper, or even, start it?” The writing process is lengthy and has many steps, such as reading, brainstorming, creating an outline and a rough draft, editing, and finally having a final draft. These steps can help anyone write a decent and fully developed paper.…

Project 2 Toni Morrison, bell hooks, and James Baldwin are all writers, professionals crafting fully realized people living in black and white, and poetically weave humor and personal tragedy into their essays about injustice. In the past, I always avoided calling myself a writer because I simply could not compare with them or their contemporaries. Throughout the years, I realized that forbidding myself from using that title was not a humble act, but instead, limiting myself from strengthening my writing through making excuses. Writing did not come naturally to me. I could do the bare minimum.…

Over the course of this semester in my English 1320 class I have seen a drastic change throughout my writing style. Although I still have difficulties with a few writing tasks, I believe that I have improved significantly throughout this course. I have found that with my professor’s guidance along with my own personal editing that my grades have increased. Although it is difficult to not get caught up in simply striving for a letter grade or attaining a 4.0 grade point average, I would like to believe that my main goal was different. Of course I would love to achieve those goals as well, but overall my primary goal throughout this class was to become more relaxed and comfortable in my writings, to use new strategies and proper kinds of conventions, and to truly find a way to express my passion on these papers.…

Over this semester of schooling my writing has changed dramatically at times and very little at others. If I was writing a paper that required a specific number of paragraphs or pages I would typically plan my paper using the four square method. If I was writing an important paper I would write a rough draft, then as I was typing it I would revise it and fix any mistakes I found. One thing that remained consistent in my writing process, no matter the type of paper, is after I wrote the paper I would try to find more grade level appropriate words instead of the simple words I originally used. While writing essays for this class I came to find it is better to combine my writing processes to write the best possible essay I could. I found the best steps for me to take in writing my paper are to write my ideas down in some form.…

I understand the importance of proof reading, researching, editing and composing my writing to create a higher quality than before I commenced this course. Effective writing is being aware of the value of taking an audience into consideration, as a writer I have learnt the importance of staying on target with your chosen audience. I found once I became personally motivated to write and pushed all doubts aside the words began to flow onto the paper. “Whatever the teaching, the writers are on their own, drawing on their experience of life, of language and of story to make meaning. I had never taken a course that involved writing a paper and then presenting a speech on it to the class. It was either one or the other, not both. The writing process is different and unique to all individuals; many people follow the ideal steps of prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing as opposed to others taking shortcuts, skipping steps, and going straight to editing. The writing process is the course one takes to get from prewriting to the publication of their essay; since everyone is a different, their writing process will also be different. For me, I believe that following the ideal writing process steps are a tremendous help to organizing my essay and spacing out the work throughout the time the assignment is assigned. To begin writing an essay I must first prewrite; to prewrite is to brainstorm ideas from the prompt by outlining, diagramming, clusterings, or…

This English class has been very helpful in my efforts to improve my writing abilities, but has also been very challenging due to there being a different median for every essay. It’s been a heavy work load especially this semester since I decided to enroll in five classes, but in the end it has been very beneficial indeed. I can’t say that writing essays has been one of my strong points but I believe that this course has helped me improve tremendously and it has also made me feel a lot more comfortable with my writing. While in high school I would usually write all of my essays a day before the due date a habit of mine that was very difficult to overcome, but now I have learned from my mistakes.…
