I feel the readings were an important aspect to my professional growth in this course and as a future teacher. Opportunities for active learning would help to increase knowledge and skills. I will make sure my students have discussions, peer teaching, role playing, debates, and think-pair-share with the class. It would allow me to be engaged in meaningful discussions, planning, and practice. Coherence in professional development would increase my learning as a teacher and would improve my classroom practice. Ways I could apply coherence teaching in my classroom would be to offer a variety of different activities and allow the students to have time to reflect on their learning. I will individually read, study, and research information so I can present my lessons to my students in a way that is easiest for them to learn. I can share with my students that I read and study information to make sure I am knowledgeable about the newest information that is currently out there. I think that team meetings to plan lessons, problem solve, improve performance, and/or learn a new strategy is an integral part of being the best teacher I can be. It would allow me to see how my colleagues come up with ideas and we all could work together to find solutions. I think that an example in my classroom would be to take advice from others colleagues and see how well it works in my own classroom. Having faculty, grade level, or department …show more content…

My classroom procedures are very clear, which the class has become familiar with over the semester. Students are to come in from their special class and grab their materials and go sit on the carpet and get ready for math to begin. These are expectations that should be memorized by now. Many of them do this and it contributes to the flow of the classroom and the engagement level of the entire groups. Students are expected to pay attention to the speaker during the mini-lesson by facing their way and not playing with any other items.…

Everyone can say that they always imagined or wanted to look up to someone whether if the person was famous or related to them. Throughout my teenage day I’ve always wanted someone to mentor me and show me things in life that I can one day use in the future years to come. I didn’t want a mentor that was a few years older I always wanted someone that was almost twice my age, maybe even older than me. My mentor that I will be talking about name is James. James and I met at my job throughout my time working there I have worked with many managers.…

This year has been a crazy one. I came from a public school, not knowing anyone, so I terrified and didn't know what to expect. I struggled with trusting others, time management and battling multiple tasks at once. Luckily, I had a lot of practice throughout the year. For instance when we had to record a News Show for Mr.Mora's class, I was faced with all of these problems.…

It was a cold, winter morning. The frigid air blew as I turned to pull the handle on the door to the main building of my small high school. After entering the doorway, I dragged my feet across the floor and trudged through the empty hallway. As I peeked through each of the door windows, I saw nothing but dark, empty classrooms. It was not until I looked up that I noticed one lit room at the end of the hall.…

Since starting high school, my interest in classroom learning had dropped quite significantly. I felt like grades were just a game, and that I should be out in the world learning things I deemed "practical life skills." My senior year I was able to mentor in a classroom of fourth graders for one period, ever other day. I took the class thinking it would be an easy and fun way to spend an hour an a half.…

I remember when I was 5, the first time I went to a building daily for 8 hours. I sat down on the cold blue chair. In front of me was a bin of crayons, all the colors of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and purple. I remember sitting in the cold room and having the freedom to draw marks on my blank sheet of paper. The dye scratching against the table, colors spreading across the canvas like the sun, rising in the early morning.…

I completed my ten-hour class observation at the private school Georgia Military Prep. The Georgia Military Prep School is located on Georgia Military College’s main campus in Milledgeville. At GMC prep I observed Ms. Jennifer Spencer's advanced eighth grade math class. Ms. Spencer has a decidedly pleasant air about her, a quick smile, and a brisk step that belies her ‘let us get the job done’ type attitude. On my first day observing her class, I soon gathered that Ms. Spencer always has a goal in mind when she sets foot in the classroom.…
