In the poem, “i carry your heart with me”, the poet, E.E. Cummings, uses enjambment, paradox, and assonance to contribute to the overall connotation of the poem, illustrating the idea that profound love is a powerful and an everlasting force that connects two souls. This theme is conveyed in the poem, because Cummings tries to displays the unity of love throughout all three stanzas. Also, he keeps on repeating, “i carry it in my heart”. This motif portrays the fact that speaker’s lover lives in him, and that they can never be separated. The speaker’s lover is his world and his fate because she gives him the strength to make the beauty of life shine. Their souls belong to each other and they are able to understand each other without saying a single word.

E.E. Cummings uses different poetic devices to further demonstrate the overall connotation of the poem, which is that a heart is not only an organ that regulates blood flow throughout the body. Since, to Cummings, a heart represents the affection and soul of a lover. Also, it is what enabled the speaker to love his lover and feel her love in return.
