The Importance Of Negetive Self-Talk

When a person has thoughts of “I 'll never pass this class", "I can 't take tests", I 'm not a good learner" just what are they really doing or thinking. These are disfunctional thoughts that can keep a person from succeeding and acchieving their goals.

Negetive self talk can cause a person to give up before they even start. John a master of negetive self talk. Not from the start, at the beinging he believes he can do anything like this class. He tells himself how hard can it be it will probably only take a couple hours a week, he can do that and everything else on his plate. Of course his plate filled up like he was eating at “Hometown Buffett”. He had his job, his family and his golf so one little class would not be easy he would do it between work and golf. He forgot to realize it was only one course but very time consuming as it had deadlines daily.
John started off very confident, he read the assignments and took his first test , yeiks he got a 14, how can that be he read and he studied. How could he do badly on the test. He moved on to the essay that was due, John never liked english in high school and it was now coming back to him why. He remembers how hard it was to write and now starts telling himself he can 't write a paper he is going to fail. He has 3 papers due and there is no way he will get a passing

John needs some cognitive behavior therapy where he will be taught to recognize and keep track of the negetive thoughts. Using this approach it helps peopl discover that negetive attitudes come mostly from a faulty thought process. (Carpenter and Huffman, p.383).
