Macbeth Song Analysis

This song was chosen for the album because of how well it describes the theme of the play. The theme of the play is, "vaulting ambition leads to unchecked morals, destruction, and death." This song is called "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction." The theme of the play revolves around the fact that Macbeth cannot be satisfied, he is greedy and just wants more and more, until it ultimately ruins him. The song is about social isolation, and how it affects you. When you distance yourself from society's norms and personal relationships you gain your individuality but lose your sense of gratification. Macbeth doesn't believe them because neither of those titles are even close to his reach. But when Thane of Cawdor is placed upon him, he begins to think that King of Scotland could be his too. This ignites his ambition. The song also says, "that man comes on to tell me / how white my shirts can be." This line can be related to when Lady Macbeth convinced Macbeth to become a ruthless go getter. She tells Macbeth to kill Duncan and think about the rewards he can sow. Also, by stepping back from a societal norm of being just and content he showed what I think was his true colors. He showed who he really was all along by becoming a heartless tyrant, he lost all of his gratification and all of his friends and respect. Macbeth in Act 5 says "And that which should accompany old age, / As honor, love, obedience, troops of friends, / I must not look to have; but, in their stead, / Curses not loud but deep," (5.3.24-27). When he realizes that his life has been nothing but deceit and loneliness he feels bad and I feel that the lyric "'Cause you see I'm on a losing streak," really describes his situation at the end of Act
