Losing your culture and being force to assimilate into “American culture”. This process of cultural genocide occurs in the schooling system because order to be recognized in this country or seen as fully human we are force to forfeit our history and loose a piece of ourselves with the hope that we will be accepted. The loss of one’s identity is fundamental when constructing agents who will just go out into the world and perpetuate the racial, social, economical hierarchy we call freedom in this country. Through schooling we are all taught one common language with intricate rules and if you do not comply or articulate yourself the “proper way” you are out casted in schools you are deemed illiterate and unintelligent. It so happens that these characteristics are associated with people of color. Why? Because in our society to be considered smart is equivalent to being White and language is used a tool used to uphold this

Hi Jacinda, I don’t question the existence of God, but I do wonder how the universe began because I like the science that is involved. For instance, if in the past years, new religions have generated with many Gods; then I can assume that people are entitled to wonder about science? People might wonder why others might question if it’s God vs. Science. They might believe there is not in between because they either believe one or the other. In Tim Wise’s book “White Like Me Reflections on Race from a Privileged son” (2011), Wise tackles the controversial topic of white privilege and how racial identity and whiteness here in America shape the overall lives of white Americans and adversely affect people of color. He entwines stories from his own life experiences from birth to present to make it both an easy read and relatable. Wise explains exactly what white privilege means and how this privilege is systematically embedded into American society and because of this, racism and racial disparities are rampant. He writes this book, not for those people of color, as they already know and understand the effects that whiteness (or lack thereof) has on their lives; but he writes for his…

White Privilege in America "White privilege" is the idea that white people unintentionally and automatically get certain perks and advantages that people of color do not receive. Many do not believe in such a concept because in America, all people are suppose to be equal, however, it is easy to see that a white person is treated differently than a person of color solely because of the color of their skin. White people living in America receive numerous “perks” on a daily basis. A number of people that get these perks probably do not stop and realize they are getting something that a person with a darker colored skin could not get. For instance, if a black woman went to a clothing store to find nude undergarments, she would most likely have a difficult time finding something that matched her skin tone because most items that are “nude” match a much lighter skin tone.…
