I Black Box Facilitator

For the leadership program I have to complete one hundred internship hours every semester. During the spring semester to obtain hours, I helped my principal, Mrs. Crockett, frequently with our school’s Title I black box. Not only did the black box give me experience of what an administrator at a Title I school has to keep up with and complete, working on the Title I black box gave me more insight on the differences between Mrs. Crockett and Mrs. Wright. Mrs. Wright was the former principal of my school. For this reflection I will focus on the trait facilitator. A facilitator conveys a personality or philosophy of: selflessness, motivation of others, praise, and delegation. From the black box I determined Mrs. Wright was not an effective facilitator. I also learned some of the traits Mrs. Wright did not display as a facilitator, I am the same way and I need to change. For example, in looking at the portion of the black box Mrs. Wright completed, everything is neat, organized, overly thorough, and completed only by her. This can be seen as a problem because there is so much work to do daily as an administrator and to add completing the black box, there is not substantial time in a day for all of this. Crockett does a great job of assigning tasks. She does not try and do everything herself. This helps others to cultivate their leadership skills and show her confidence in others. Plus,this allows her time to focus on other things she needs to do, help others feel like they can contribute, and establish a culture of collaboration. Another practice Mrs. Crockett utilizes is she emphasizes “bucket filling”. She not only models the practice, she motivates faculty and staff to practice “bucket filling” amongst one another and in their classrooms. She adds to others bucket by an action or kind word and in turn expects faculty, staff, and students to do the same
