I believe student ministry is biblical because it falls under the umbrella of the ministry of the church. As the church carries out the great commission (Matthew 28:19-20), students along with everyone else need to hear the gospel, respond to it, and be disciples. Although I believe that it is biblical, I do not believe we see anywhere specific in scripture where a plan is laid out just for student ministry. With that being said, I do believe that a gospel centered student ministry can be of great value. Some people will argue against this like the ones in favor of family integrated churches. These people say, that it’s the job of the parent to disciple their children, not the church or the minister to disciple the children and youth. I agree with them to a certain degree. We do see in scripture that the parents are responsible for training their children in the ways of the Lord (Deuteronomy 6:4-9, Proverbs 22:6). Pearson Johnson explained it in an article on BibleStudyTools.com, “Parents have the responsibility to evangelize and train their children, but it is also the responsibility of the church to evangelize and disciple people of all ages, and a well-organized children’s ministry can help accomplish these goals. Don’t abandon ministry to children!” I agree with Johnson. As the church we should not abandon ministry to children and youth.
