I Believe In Forgiveness Research Paper

Improved Essays
I believe in forgiveness. Forgiveness to me is when someone sees what the other person has done and chooses to be selfless enough to love and forgive the person despite the mistakes made. People who have wronged deserve forgiveness because even though they have made a mistake it is okay. We are all humans and humans make mistakes all the time. It takes time to forgive someone, but after a while you will forget why you were mad or upset at the person. Sometimes you just have to let things go in order to be happy for yourself. In the Bible, the word “forgiveness” means “to let go,” so let go and let God.

Forgiveness is very important to myself because I made a very bad mistake to my best friend, but there were reasons for the mistake I made.

To Forgive or Not Forgive, That is the Question Throughout the New Testament of the Bible, Christians are constantly reminded of the importance of forgiveness. Mathew 6:15 states: “But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses” (KJV). In other words, a person cannot expect to be forgiven by God if that person does not forgive others. When it comes to forgiving those that I love, I do not have a difficult time forgiving them, and this is probably because I love them so much.…

When Maeve was nine, her father “came into the bathroom when she was showering and had her perform oral sex on him” (72). Technically, forgiveness is an individual or group absoluting the other person or group of whatever transgressions they committed. The act is simple enough, a few cordial words suffice and are enough to constitute as acceptance. This differs from total forgiveness which is much deeper than putting water under the bridge. First, the person who was hurt must want to extend mercy and be willing. True compassion entails completely starting fresh and not letting the wrongdoing impact the judgement of each other from both parties.…

What can Americans learn from the Amish understanding of forgiveness as it was expressed after the Nickel Mines shooting? A: Even though forgiveness is a complicated and difficult thing, if we approach it with the support of other people — the Amish do everything in community, including their grieving — and if we don't feel like we have to have all the emotions sorted out before we extend compassion, the road to forgiveness is easier. Reaching out in compassion to others in the faith that the difficult emotional work will follow, I think, is one of the things that they demonstrate.…

Interaction My initial response to the concept of forgiveness therapy for abuse survivors was that it seemed counter-intuitive, as it can be perceived to excuse the abusive behavior and invalidate the suffering of the victim. However, this impression fails to acknowledge the therapeutic definition of forgiveness as used in therapy, a release of resentment (Reed & Enright, 2006). Upon review of this definition of forgiveness therapy, I concluded that it was in line with other therapeutic ideals that encourage release of negative thought patterns and encourage the construction of positive thought patterns and behaviors.…

Moreover, when people forgive their offenders, it shows that justice has been served. Furthermore, when people do what is just, by forgiving their offenders, their view of the world will change. One of the reasons why forgiveness and justice go hand in hand is when an immoral person receives retributive justice, it causes people to repent on their wrongdoings thus making them a better person when they’re also forgiven by their victims.
