Being trustworthy is the greatest trait to ever maintain. Petrie expects all of the Auburn family to be honest and truthful in everything and everyone. Petrie believes in is a sound mind and a spirit that is not afraid. Having a sound mind and body means to be healthy emotionally and physically. They are supposed to be in harmony with each other. Petrie organized Auburn’s first football team. If the players do not play a fair game, then it is not worth winning. Playing a clean sport will help people develop a sound mind and body. Following the law will benefit society and each person as a whole. It helps maintain a safe and orderly environment. It will also protect individual’s rights. If society did not live by the law, there would be no way to protect someone and his/her rights in their own property and possession. Petrie also believes in the human touch, which cultivates sympathy with his fellow men. It will bring mutual helpfulness and happiness for all. The second to last line of the creed is the most important, “I believe in my Country, because it is a land of freedom and because it is my own home, and that I can best serve that country by "doing justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly with my God."” He believes in Auburn and the country because it is his home. He wants his Auburn family to feel like they are at home when they come here. Everyone should be equal and not discriminate against each other. Micah 6:8 states “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? Doing justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly with my God.” Doing justly means to do what is honest and fair.
