I could fill this statement with fluffy, extravagant language and discuss how challenging life is and have some overall theme like what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. But, that hasn’t been my life. A personal statement should be true to your character and I would be lying if I wrote about how depressed I was about life and discouraged by the difficulties I faced. That’s just not my style. Since the beginning of my life, church has been my life. Now, I am not saying this in a bad way, in fact, I can proudly say that I am who I am today because of church. Ever since I was in my mother’s womb, I attended the same church in Peoria, Arizona. Because of this, I grew up with a strong set of morals and beliefs. But, what I am really trying to say here, is that I grew up looking at life differently. When others thought about how terrible it was that our teachers were getting fired because the school couldn’t afford to pay them, I thought …show more content…
Little girl grows up, does a successful job in school, gets straight A’s and joins clubs. Everyone around her repetitively tells her how much potential she has. Growing up in an environment like planted a seed in my head, a seedling that has grown over the years to become what it is today. I spent weekends studying and summers doing programs, I loved school and learning and thinking about how that little seed could one day become a flower. When I was younger I wanted to be something big when I grew up. In my head, I thought that doctors and business men all were successful and made a lot of money. Or, how wonderful must it be to go to a workplace that you loved being at and knew you had a stable position there. This along with other ideas of happiness related to careers is why I knew I wanted to be something big and important when I grew

When considering what career I wanted to achieve I was given a substantial amount of advice; starting with choosing something that you are passionate about and ending with researching everything you can about what you want to do. Having been given advice, and learned from past experiences that I needed to listen to all the advice. So I thought long and hard about what my dream job would be. I knew it had to be something where I was helping people. After my freshman year in college, I knew without a doubt that I wanted to do something with psychology, hopefully using animal assisted therapy.…

Growing up, my family and I weren’t very religious by any means. My parents grew up in Catholic families, but when they moved away from their families, they moved away from God too. Every time we were stationed in a new place, my parents always blamed not going to church on the military and how we would always be moving. My sister and I didn’t mind this, because we didn’t really know what church was, and didn’t understand the meaning of it, but when we moved to Louisiana in 2012, I met a friend that would change this. I met this girl Samantha, who seemed to be in a few of my classes.…

I was being driven to church on Sundays and youth group on Wednesdays for the first decade and a half of my life but it was only a routine, nothing more. This routine has been instilled in me since I first saw the light of day seventeen years ago yet I’ve never left my metaphorical bubble. I had grown up protected and shielded from the outside world and both the horrors and wonders it holds. When I transitioned out of Mennonite middle school, I was thrown into the deep end at a school where I knew no one and I couldn’t rely on Bible class to support my values. In all honesty, I lost my way.…

The book “Why Church Matters: Discovering your place in the Family of God” by Joshua Harris influenced my perspective, opinion, and the decision about the church. Firstly, this book helped me to develop a different point of view of the local church. Before I was not giving so much importance to it. For me, belonging to a universal church was better than belonging to the local one. I did not want to commit to a place where sometimes people lead with their own desires.…

When I was 10 years old I was just an ordinary little girl who loved to climb trees, play with cars, play soccer, and pretend to be a lawyer or a doctor. As a child, you want to become so many things when you grow up. Your parents even tell you that you can be anything that you want to be. As a result, children tend to say, “I want to be a princess.” , “I want to be an astronaut.”, or “I want to be President of the United States.” When I was just seven years old, I told my parents,”I want to be a chef.”, and the reason for this was because I found a huge interest in cooking, and because my father was a chef as well.…
