It seems like we spend so much time learning about other cultures that we often don’t take a step back to reflect upon our own culture and appreciate it. Culture is defined as the ideas, customs, and social behavior of a particular people or society ( America is one of the most diverse countries in the world when it comes to culture. As we all learned in history class at some point, the “American Dream” brought in a large number of people from around the world. Along with those people came their cultures. These cultures remained prevalent for generations to come. In my case, I am the product of Caucasian and Hispanic parents. So like many others in this country, I have a mixed background of cultures. My father is Caucasian and was born in Amarillo, Texas. His culture, in my opinion, is the average, all American, middle class culture. He values family highly and works a great deal as a conductor for the Union Pacific Railroad to support our family. He is Christian and goes to church every Sunday that he can with our family. In fact, I have never seen my father even pick up a beer. He will not drink in front of me because he wants to be a helpful role model. My grandparents on his side are much like he is. However, they are more conservative than he is. On the other side, my mother is Hispanic and was born in Farmington, New Mexico. She was raised Catholic and family is extremely important to her. We have a large number of family on her side. While…
