I Am Stereotype Analysis

Decent Essays
I am stereotyped in a lot of different ways. Over the years I have discovered stereotypes about myself as a teen and they don’t sound like who I am on the inside at all. Most of the labels I am given are negative and I don’t act like the labels I am given. Most people tell me that I looked mean before I started talking to them because I have a face that looks like i'm mad all the time when I’m really not, and others say I never pay attention or get confused a lot because I always have to ask to repeat something or I never understand a question. I don’t like being stereotyped because it makes me feel bad about myself and I feel like most people think of me like that, which in most cases I don’t. They also say that I’m judgemental because they say I give everyone a look that looks like I’m judging them, but in reality I’m probably just staring off into space. The stereotypes people give me can, at times, be true, but most of the ones people talk about are ridiculous. People judge others before they take the time to get to know them. People need to realize that not all people are the same and that they should treat others with respect. Also, some people say I'm too shy because I never want to participate in class discussions or I never know what to say when talking to new people, but I just don’t like to …show more content…
The ways that other people see me are completely different than the way I see myself. I see myself as a girl who is friendly, reliable, respectful, and ambitious. I think I am a person who can comprehend things easily and can make friends anywhere I go. I also see myself as a girl who is ready to do anything and puts 101% effort into everything I

Stereotypes have long been with us; it’s the way we think, it goes back deep into history, its found in every culture, and its how we live life everyday. When you start going beyond the reason that they’re considered who they are, and start saying everyone like them in that way, also acts like them, in other ways; it’s wrong. We not only classify, but relate people to a social class by the way they look, not only does this create assumptions about people it can also lead to things like hostility, ignorance, and hatred, even if it is done subconsciously, many people still act on it and pick it up at a young age. There are two examples that I think well describes stereotyping. Stella Young in her podcast I’m not your inspiration, thank you…

The impact of stereotypes depicted in the media, still has an effect on individuals in society today. As a young black African American women who often speaks her mind, with a very strong personality, people may very well stereotype me as a “Angry Black Women” commonly depicted on black television shows seen today. “Schemas of how people are likely to behave based simply on the groups to which they belong are known as stereotypes.” (Feist, G. & Rosenberg, E.2012). Like William Raspberry, I think stereotypes limit us from performing at our full potential. Throughout middle school, I was labeled as academically perfect by my peers. In sixth grade, I had many classes with a boy called Zach, who tended to slack off during school. Every day, he would ask for the answers to our homework. He asked questions about linear graphs, the rock cycle, and the worst of all, where Kyrgyzstan is.…

A lot of people see me as fake. I guess I am. I don’t want to be flat out rude to people, but I am most of the time and I’ll say it to there face. At Forest Grove High School, I got in trouble for bullying a lot because I was a big time bully to everyone. The only way I made myself feel better is if I pointed out their flaws before they could even get to mine, later I would always feel bad about it.…

Stereotypes have an enormous impact of how people feel. They can make people feel stressed, upset, anxious, and more. When people stereotype others all the time, they get tired of being criticized and will be afraid to talk because they don’t want to say something wrong and they are afraid of failure. When I first learned that I would have to complete multiple IAT tests, I automatically had an idea of what I thought my scores were going to be for each test. For all of the tests, I assumed that I would receive a score of moderate preference. I especially assumed that I would receive a score of moderate preference on the Race IAT test because that was the score that I had received when I took the same test last year. Turns out, I received a moderate preference score on the Gender- Career and Age IAT tests, and a strong preference score on the Race, and Disability IAT tests. I think when I first found out that I had received a score of strong preference on the Race and Disability IAT tests I was at first very shocked and confused about…

Picture a freshman boy with glasses, straight posture, and overalls walking down the hallway inside his high school. There's no doubt that everyone in school will assume the boy is a nerd with straight As who has no friends because of his appearance. A second example would be a varsity cheerleader, everyone assumes that she is sassy, loud, and mean not knowing the person she truly is. Society often labels people with stereotypes even though they don’t take the time to actually get to know this person. Stereotypes often begin because of true or false information on certain individuals.…
