As I began to walk through the journey I became frustrated in dealing with different assignments. It also I also felt as if I was not good enough. The most fearful experience I have had throughout this process was recognizing I was and would be different and I would lose the familiar along the way.
In 1997, the movie “B.A.P.S.” by Robert Townsend was released. B.A.P.S. stood for Black American Princess I love the movie because it provides us with an example of how God can take nothing and turn it into something. In the movie Halle Berry, Martin Landau and Natalie Deselle. Both women were called to the hair ministry. They were given an assignment to open a hair salon and a soul food restaurant. The only problem was they had no idea how they would accomplish this task. Auditions for a music video was being held in Los Angeles. The two women were not what many would refer to as classy women.
Many would have referenced them in the popular term used in this day in age as being “HOOD”. They appeared to have lived in the ghetto. Their hairstyles were very noticeable with different types of colors that stood out. The two of them had gold teeth in their mouth and used slang language when speaking. The plotter was also present. The attorney proceeded to read the will and the women and the butler were granted a fortune beyond their imaginations. The sick man knew from the beginning that his nephew was trying to take his fortune, but the plan backfired and he ended up with nothing. Because the women had answered the call and remained obedient despite the many different obstacles they faced, they received an award. The women despite leaving their home, spouses and careers stayed the course of the assignment. They went through a process of being changed from Ghetto to Classy, the ability to put their dreams on hold in order to meet the needs of someone else. They learned how to love someone who they did not know and how to live and become royalty without realizing that soon they would not only play the role but also become who they were called to be. Had they not answered the original call and accepted, the women would still be living an unfulfilled impoverished life. They also would not have had the opportunity to assist with meeting the need of a person who desperately needed joy, care and compassion that the two women
