It was my fifth and final deployment with the Navy. It had been a long six years and it seemed like I was never home due to all the training evolutions and deployments I had been a part of. I was excited to finish this deployment, return home, and make up for the lost time with my wife. I went to a beautiful country we called “Satan’s butthole”, just kidding it was Afghanistan. This deployment wasn’t like the others; we would talk almost every day in the past, but this time our phone calls were a lot shorter, Skype sessions lessened by the day, and replies to my Facebook messages were at an all-time low. Sure enough, it was her and I immediately got worried because she was supposed to be on her way to her mother’s house for the weekend to spend time with her younger sister who was in her second year of college and flying in from Florida. I began to think the worst things possible. What if she got in a car accident on the way there and is dying or is seriously injured?
