I Am Sam is a movie about a single father, Sam Dawson who has a developmental disability, and his daughter Lucy. The mother of Lucy is a homeless women who never had any contact with her daughter or Sam past her birth. Sam is able to raise Lucy with the support of his friends, and their neighbor Annie, who has an anxiety disorder. As Lucy gets older, she realizes at the young age of seven, that she is indeed smarter than her father. As Child Protective Services learns more about the situation Sam and Lucy are in, they attempt to take Lucy away from Sam.
