I am researching neurosurgery and everything that it takes to become a neurosurgeon. . It takes extreme amounts of hard work and dedication to become a neurosurgeon. Many hours will be spent studying to complete a degree in this medical field. Competition is tough to get into medical school these days. I am interested in researching neurosurgery because I am fascinated by the brain. It is truly incredible how the brain functions and controls everything that goes on in your body. There is still so much to find out about the brain and I would like to be involved in these discoveries. I am up for the challenge to become a neurosurgeon. Neurosurgeons are very busy and have a lot to deal with, and must be organized. You would have to be continually focused in order to keep everything on track. There are personal qualities and traits that a doctor should possess to get the best results possible from their field of study. A neurosurgeon should have good communication skills, compassion, and patience; They should also be detail-oriented, have dexterity, physical stamina, and good problem-solving skills(Bureau of Labor Statistics). These qualities are very important because patients may have unique problems requiring resources and knowledge to work through them. Being a neurosurgeon can be a stressful job, and it is not for everyone. It takes many years of school and hard work to become a neurosurgeon. Minimum requirements to get a job as a neurosurgeon include four years of undergraduate school, four years of medical school, and three to eight years of internships and residency (okcareerguide). Even after all of the schooling, it is still difficult to become a neurosurgeon. A minimum entry for medical school is three years of college and most people entering already have at least a bachelor’s degree and many have more advanced degrees. Some major satisfactions of being a neurosurgeon would be the six figure paycheck you get from all of your hard-work, you are able to do what you love everyday, and my personal favorite is you have the opportunity to completely change someone’s life. If I become a neurosurgeon, I will have the power to help many people and that is exactly what I want to do in life. I want to make a difference in lives. The financial rewards of the job are fantastic as well. If you are going to be a neurosurgeon, you should expect a six figure paycheck(Bureau of Labor Statistics). All of your blood, sweat, and tears that you will have put into getting your degree will finally be paying off. Money isn’t everything but you would definitely be living comfortably. Being a neurosurgeon or a physician in general would also have an impact on your family life. Being a doctor is a very busy job so you might not have as much time off with your children as you wish to have. Another factor that would affect family life would be that my income would be able to support my love to travel.
