In my profession I know my values could hinder me working with vulnerable populations because I know the people I might serve might not believe in my values and uphold them. I would struggle with clients that are not honest about there current situation which could prolong the process for me finding a solution to their problem. In the same token, I do believe my values would keep me focus on the ultimate goals of my clients. I know what type of clients I would be serving but I would not do nothing less of serving them to the best of my ability. Rotaract is an international volunteering organization that mission is service above self through community service. When I took the position the organization was trying to build themselves from nothing. They did not have a typical budget or a full executive board. The only positions filled were President, Vice President, and treasurer. I was trusted with the positions to wear multiple hats while making the organizations strive to its best with what we had. In the year that I served, I planned, facilitated and gathered over five different organizations to complete an international project. My executive board and I hosted multiple fundraiser throughout the semester for my major fundraised called Kick’in it for Kibera which was to raised funds for children in Kenya, Africa to receive education, sheltered, and food. I brought human foosball to Western campus for the very first time and put on a basketball tournament at the same time. The event raised over $1400 dollars that accommodated the need of the children for six months. What I took away from this leadership role is there is no excuse to not making the impossible happen. I took an idea of mines and ran with it. With hard work and dedication, I did not let anything infer with making my idea a reality.
