Mona tries to tell her dad to not let Nujood get married because she is too young to get married but she is just ignored by her dad. “Mona tried several times to defend me but was too timid, and anyways, who would have listened to her?” (Ali 97) Mona was also to scared to speak up because she knew her father would scold her for ir. There is also a standard in Yemen that the oldest and the men who have the last word, “Here it’s always the oldest, and the men, who have the last word” (Ali 97).
