Quotes About The Meaning Of Life

I figured I should write one more nice thing before my classes start since you guys have been having a very bad week with school stuff and other things. Well, I want to start off by saying that you guys seem to wonder a lot about the meaning of life, and whether or not it has any meaning. I want to tell you that it does, and there is a good quote from a member of a 90’s and 2000’s rock band called Blink 182 that explains why. The guitarist, Tom Delonge, said that “When we realize how little we mean to the universe, we realize how important we are to each other.”, and I think that this is a very true quote that was written by quite the goofball. I’m not going to lie to you here. The universe is a very big and scary place, and we all have troubles …show more content…
I honestly thought I was not going to make it through the summer or college. You guys putting up with me and being nice to me made me feel a lot better about my life in many ways. Which brings me back to the quote of mine. You guys have pretty much saved me from an immediate suicide (I don’t think I have the balls for that), or a prolonged suicide as I would’ve slowly killed myself over time with depression and unhealthy habits. I am trying to say that you guys are both smart and great kids, and the people around you love you more than you know. You guys are doing great and you are contributing to the world no matter how much it all seems meaningless. I know you may not believe me, but you guys have saved me to a large degree just by being yourselves. I am the happiest I’ve been in a long time even though I like to bitch every now and then. You guys have helped me and everyone around you more than you know. You are both going to go on to have more freedom and fun with your future careers no matter what they are. You are going to meet new people, and do great things no matter how large. The world is tough, but whatever happens I am always willing to help you guys no matter what happens to you guys. I owe you guys more than you think you owe me at least in my eyes, so please never be afraid to ask for my help or time. I am always here despite being on a college schedule, but yeah that’s all I got. I really am convinced that dying is a better fate than being alive knowing that you guys are gone, so please don’t ever give up. The world needs good people, and you guys are better than 99% of the human race despite whatever mistakes you have made. Well fuck it! That’s all I got now smile

From cover to cover, the book “Outliers” is filled with great quotes and important life lessons. Some specific quotes and lessons from the book, “Outliers” will carry on with me as I enter into my college years and later, into adulthood. I know that I will keep these quotes tucked in the back of my head as I face challenging decisions and whatever other unexpected hardships life may decide to throw my way. The chapter that stuck out to me the most from the book, “Outliers” was chapter one. Chapter one pertained the most to me because it talks about a young hockey player that gets scouted and becomes successful at his sport.…

A Response to Question 1, Section 1: The Meaning of Life: Wolf vs. Taylor Both Richard Taylor and Susan Wolf understand the difficulty of answering the question, “What is the meaning of life?” Taylor begins his “The Meaning of Life” by saying that we do not even understand what the question means to then answer it, and Wolf claims in her own “The Meanings of Lives” that the question is embarrassing to ask because, as Taylor asserts, we really do not understand what is being asked here. Taylor proposes, then, the best way to answer this is to ask what makes for a meaningless life, and perhaps from this comparison, we can find some answers to the original question. Wolf appreciates Taylor’s approach as she also adopts his method, and even though…

Susan Wolfs “The Meaning in Life and Why It Matters” is a short book of Essays containing commentaries by Robert Adams and John Kothe, and Wolfs responses to their commentary. Throughout the book Wolf focuses on 3 views to talk about when thinking about life, and objectively why it matters for it to be important. Those 3 views are the Fulfillment view, the Larger-than-oneself view, and the Bipartite view. After explaining these views Wolf then gives her interpretation on her own crafted view called the Fitting Fulfillment view. After Wolf explains these views, Adams and Kothe set up counter arguments to her view and the other views.…

At 38 degrees latitude north and 92 longitude west, lies the rural farming town of California, Missouri. This town is rich in cornfields, small businesses, and many churches of all denominations. From the quiet fields, to the busy town square this city is home to 4,341 people. What I believe makes California stand out from the other towns is that it has the “oldest continuously operating fair west of the Mississippi” (Kunze). But the thing that impacts me most about this town is the California High School, it’s staff, and the students.…

Cue the cliché: What is the meaning of life? Is it simply to work, in hopes of gaining great wealth? Or wanting to contribute to the world and reach peace and harmony? What about merely finding the love of your life and starting a family, well, a financially stable family that is. The answer to this question resides in our own perception of life and reflection on what, we find, most important to live for.…

I’m thankful for what we have and I hope it just gets stronger. Thank you for always being there for me, thank you for being my comfort and listening to me through my angry rants and sadness, thank you for the advice and the continues protection, thank you for baring with my sometimes moodiness, thank you for holding me when I cry and wiping my tears away even when I’m being oversensitive or crying over something small like me not wanting you to go to school for the day cause I’ll be bored. There’s so much more but overall thank you for being “the kid Vido” I continue to fall in love with and I cherish every moment and memory we have…

In her essay “Meaning in Life and Why It Matters,” Susan Wolf discusses the reasons that contribute to meaning in our lives and argues that we should “understand meaningfulness as an attribute lives can have that is not reducible to or subsumable under either happiness, as it is ordinarily understood, or morality” (3). In laying out her beliefs of how we can find meaning, she discusses different viewpoints and offers suggestions of how they should be altered and combined to make a more accurate theory she calls the ‘Fitting Fulfillment View.’ In this paper I will explain the details of the Fitting Fulfillment View as described by Wolf as well as why it is important to talk about meaning and how we can judge whether something is meaningful or not. Through looking at the example of education, I will prove that Wolf’s account is reasonable, versatile, and…

Many people would believe in the idea that having love in their lives makes them feel complete. That the best form of happiness is companionship, whether it is found through a relationship with friends, family or a spouse. When birthdays and other special occasions occur, we choose to spend them with our closest loved ones rather than alone. So, is this what gives our lives meaning? Do we require the love and affection from others in order to feel fulfilled with a sense of purpose?…
