There have many student development theories that I have been introduced to this semester, however, I find transition theory to be most applicable with my mentees. Mentees have often admitted that the transition from high school to college has been difficult. I have also encountered students who admit that the transition of having to leave home and their families behind to attend college has been very challenging and emotionally distressful. As a result, I find myself using the 4 S’s of transition when working with these students. For instance being a support system in these times where they often feel alone. Also providing honest feedback and letting them know that it is normal to feel this way, and they will gradually learn to better cope with it. Lastly, acknowledging the useful resources that the institution (CSUN)
