I Am Not A Writer: Poem Analysis

**Short disclaimer: I am not a writer, I don't claim to be. Rather then critique my message, just hear me out.**

It's exhausting, Who would have thought this country would be in the state of mind that it is? I mean it's heartbreaking. Living in a world that is suffocating itself from all the negativity and appalling behavior. I don't even feel sorry for myself anymore. Ive almost grown numb to it. No, I feel sorry for my children, their children and so on. To see how fast this world is collapsing right before our eyes, it frightens me. I can't even begin to envision what it will be like when we're one day living in that future. Is it too much to want to wake up in a world of balance and tranquility? A world where labels don't exist. A

In the beginning of the poem, Bradstreet is sleeping during a calm and quiet night, and then suddenly, she wakes up by “thund’ring noise / And piteous shrieks of dreadful voice” (lines 3-4). She then sees that her house is burning in fire. Terrified, she cries out to God and prays so that God would help her. Her house eventually got entirely burned up, and Bradstreet ended up homeless, but she did not lose hope. After listening to Serial, a podcast based on the awaiting trial of a high school star Adnan, I believe that he is guilty of killing his, at the time, girlfriend Haemin Lee. First of all, Adnan doesn’t anything specific from that afternoon. If anyone got a call from the police saying that your friend is missing, you would definitely remember every detail of what happened that day because it is not something that you can just forget. Just to add to that, if your friend is still missing the next day, you would go over all of the specifics with the people that youre both friends with to try and put together every piece of the story. So to me, that makes absolutely no sense.…

Imagine a civilization where violent teens run rampant, citizens live in ignorance and the government has the power to drastically alter one’s most basic views. In Anthony Burgess’s A Clockwork Orange and Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 this is people’s reality. These dystopian worlds may not be too distant from the state the world is currently approaching. It is imperative that individuals maintain a sense of identity in a global landscape that is growing more and more uniform.…

Growing up as a hispanic woman in America has always been more difficult than I thought it was going to be. There were many times where I felt excluded, judged or like I am not as good as other people. Throughout my life this has always affected my happiness because it was never as easy as I wanted it to be. With that being said, many people that are also a different race also struggle with this problem and this affects their wellbeing as well. I came to realize what a struggle being a person of color is to other people as well after carefully reading a short story by Junot Diaz called “Wildwood” and a poem by Claudia Rankine called “From Citizen Six” where both of the characters were treated unfairly, and ran into issues on a daily basis because…

But soon, these moments pass and we fall into banality once again. Nelson briefly quotes Sontag, who “declared that we live in ‘an age of extremity,’ characterized by ‘the continual threat of two equally fearful, but seemingly opposed destinies: unremitting banality and inconceivable terror’” (Nelson, 306). We live in this continuous cycle of extremes, but neither are productive ways to engage with the world. And choosing to stay in this cycle reflects a static mindset.…

Firstly, I’ll discuss the various rhymes and figures of speech in (Nas’s: ‘Life’s a Bitch’). In lines 2-3, there are polysyllabic, end, and broken rhymes: ‘beginners’— ‘percenters’, ‘percenters’— ‘sinners’, ‘in us’ – ‘sinners’. Nas makes a connection with the “5 percenters”, which originated from the U.S. (Nation of Islam). Essentially, these rhymes convey the “black bodies” and how they endure significant hardship, while committing sins such as stealing, killing, or drug dealing. Line 4 contains a metonymy: ‘some are sitting in San Quentin’ stands for the friends he’s lost in prison, as ‘San Quentin’ is referred to as the state prison in California.…

INTRODUCTION The world’s many dystopian debacles including, poverty, war and capitalism are commonly disputed though the effective manipulation of protest songs. Cambridge Dictionary defines protest song as a song that expresses disapproval, typically regarding politics. Song-writers have manipulated stylised literacy conventions since the 1960s to empower mass populations, return voice to those who have been marginalised, influence people’s cultural perspectives and widen social ideologies. The songs “White Fella Black Fella” (1985) by Warumpi Band and “I Am Austrlian” (1987) by The Seekers both contain the literacy techniques of: meaning, imagery, language, tone, and style which have been effectively mastered to clearly convey their parallel protest messages.…

The poem, Eldorado, by Edgar Allan Poe, is a short but gloomy tale of a Knight who spent a great amount of time searching for Eldorado; but never found it. Eldorado is a place that is used as a metaphor to represent an ultimate prize that one might spend their life seeking. It can also represent true love, heaven, happiness, or success. Toward the end of the Knights life, he met a “pilgrim shadow” and asked it where Eldorado might be. As the poem goes on, it describes and suggests directions where the old Knight should look and explore for the land of Eldorado.…

Poetry has been a part of my life from a very young age. I always enjoyed writing poetry at home in journals, filling the pages with my thoughts and feelings, which became beautiful through elegant words and lyrical phrases. Poetry was a space for me to turn anything I could not express into something people would not only listen to, but also enjoy. Poetry was a way for me to feel like I could tell the world about myself without burdening them with actually listening to me talk about myself; even as a young girl I felt that my story was not worthy of being told organically, it had to be something creative and unique to be worthy. Despite writing poetry, I did not enjoy reading poetry for the most part, however that changed when I came across slam and spoken word.…
