Personal Narrative: Diabetic Psychopathy

Great Essays
It was one day back in June of 2014 that my dad began to gush blood from under his arm. He had surgery under his armpit, because he had to have his dialysis fistula removed. He was sitting in the living room when he felt something warm running down his side. He yelled for me to come up front, and I had to apply pressure to the wound. An artery had burst and the blood was gushing out. Once he had that problem fixed, I was the one who had to keep it clean and change the bandages. He is a dialysis patient and he has diabetic neuropathy in his hands and feet. It’s as if his feet are numb, and he has shooting pains that can come and go at any time in those body parts. He’s not able to do much for himself, so he requires help and I am the person …show more content…
I might have to cook, change his bandage (if he has any), check his blood glucose level, and administer insulin if needed. Those are my daily tasks even after being gone for seven hours for my high school and college classes. I have to have that balance in order to get through the school year. Its as if another responsibility has been added onto my already overloaded plate. I have dealt with his health issues since I was in sixth grade. Along with my father being sick, my mother was diagnosed with lung cancer and passed away in January 2013. That was a tragic event in my life, and I still had to be able to focus on both college and high school classes as …show more content…
Instead, it’ll keep money in their pockets and I could also give back to them. Having a scholarship to pay for my schooling will let me use what I learned in college to obtain the career that I desire. I can be able to provide for them and help them while they are struggling. I deserve this scholarship because of my academics and how I am able to balance my home life. I study, I schedule which days I plan to do which assignments, and I seek help when needed. One of the college courses that I am taking right now is BIO 111 and it is a general biology course. You learn about cells, photosynthesis, etc. The only high school classes I’m taking are Senior Project and Earth and Environmental. I attend Warren Early College High School, and instead of graduating in five years with my high school diploma and Associate 's of Arts, I will be graduating in four years. My short term goal is to graduate with my high school diploma with an Associate’s of Arts and Science. So once I finish school and get accepted into college, I can know for sure that my home life will not be stressed with the thoughts of having to pay student loans. Another short term goal would be to find a job near the college of my choice, so I can be able to take care of personal finances. I will be able to have less stress when it comes to my studies because I will know that things at home are going to be okay. I am going

I feel like I am a good candidate for this scholarship because, as a senior, any and all money earned and received will help me ease the burden of attending college. My goal throughout my whole childhood was to receive a full ride scholarship to the college of my dreams; however, as time has gone on and I have matured I have come to the realization that, that dream is not as achievable as I once believed it to be. I have worked hard, inside and outside of the classroom, making the grades and creating the resume that colleges are looking for, and in response I have been offered tuition waivers. Which ultimately means I am still responsible for paying for my books, room and board, part of the tuition cost, and mandatory fees.…

As a first-generation woman of color that comes from a low-income household, I quickly realized that the opportunity to attain a college degree is unique and would not be possible if it were not for scholarship money and grants. If awarded the College JumpStart Scholarship I would use it to cover the various expenses of my spring semester. I intend to use the scholarship to buy books and supplies that will be required for the courses that I am taking. Also, I would use the scholarship to better immerse myself in campus life. With the scholarship, I could afford the time to attend talks and lectures, get more involved in on-campus clubs, pay for transportation, and most importantly work fewer hours at my work-study which in turn would enable me to do all that was previously mentioned.…
