I Am Legend

Our film was an adaption of I Am Legend by Richard Matheson. We had three parts in the film, the introduction to the world, Neville meeting Ruth, Neville and Ruth having dinner. My main contribution was through the editing and I also directed the chase sequence. We chose I Am Legend because it was fresh in our minds and we’d seen three adaptions of the book already. We decided that Neville and Ruth’s relationship would be the easiest to portray on screen since we only needed two actors. The group originally wanted to do just the meeting scene but it was decided to tack on the dinner scene for length and to flesh out Ruth more.
In the introduction, we mainly used a montage and voiceover narration. However, the first 30 seconds is done through

Simple shot/reverse shot with equal power angles because Ruth has a powerful secret on her side which we hint at in this scene. The scene was kept simple because so much happens in their conversation. Donovan and Mallory did a great job of acting with their eyes, especially when silent. I tried to include the best reaction scenes where their eyes do a lot of work. Whether it’s a confused look, skeptical gaze, or fearful face. They do a lot for the storytelling. For example, when Mallory hears Ben Cortman’s voice, she first looks surprised and scared before turning towards the noise. Speaking of Cortman, we showed Neville’s reaction first because he would react first and nonchalantly since he’s used to it. In contrast, Ruth reacts surprised and fearful. We established these reactions to create a little mystery and suspense before revealing the source of the noise. A slow zoom in on the door was intended to not only show the noise is coming from the door but to also give another eerie vibe. The last shot of the short, is Ruth running off and Neville staying behind looking confused but not necessarily suspicious. We tracked Ruth for a moment but then looked back to Neville since this entire story is told from his point of …show more content…
Trying to find camera angles and editing using the logic of what the character is going through as well as convey the message we wanted to convey. If I had a time machine, I would do a million things differently but I think part of the enjoyment of this project is the time crunch to get it done. It forces everyone to be engaged and using creative muscles. I hope the audience finds intended themes of loneliness and creepiness apparent. I also hope they clearly understand the power dynamics and perhaps even find the short well edited. However, that last one might be too much to ask

Guaranteed, if I had done this all by myself, this would have been a huge challenge for me, but working with Azad, Katy, Alex Hubbard, and Alex Harris made it easy for me to get my assignment done. They made things 100% go faster and smoother. I really appreciate all of their work. Alex Hubbard and Azad were my two actors for the script and they helped out because they listen to how I wanted their reactions and their tones to be based on how I interpret the script. Alex Harris, allowing us to use his personal lighting kits, he made it easy to maneuver those around.…

Andre Dubus “The Killings” and Todd Fields In the Bedroom present the theme of grief, revenge and how a good person can commit an evil act; through the different uses of characters, plot, and tone. There are very subtle changes between the story and the film adaption, with some parts of the film quoting the story word for word. While the director keeps the film in very close likeness to the story, there are subtle changes we can compare and contrast. Beginning with the characters, right away the narrator in the story introduces the grieving family of Frank Fowler. Matt and Ruth, the parents, and siblings Steve and Cathleen.…

“Pretty Tough” is much more than a brand or a film, but it just so happens that their narrative short will be shown at the Artemis Film Festival this year. The main premise of the story is that of two competitive sisters who join the high school soccer team. Recently, I had the opportunity to ask Jane Schonberger about this film and the importance of raising strong girls in today’s society. What inspired you to pursue a career in the entertainment industry?…

These sound effects help create a sense of atmosphere because they are very strong and match the mood of the book, which along with the reader and his tone of the voice, allows me to really envision the mood. The audio was very well thought out and strongly selected because of its usefulness in this audio book. The sound effects are related not only to the mood but also to the characters actions and temperaments by changing the tone of the sound effects to math how that character feels along with darker sounds for an upset mood and a lighter happier tone when the mood is well. The sound effects are important because they are used to build the themes in the text by using sound effects that get the listeners attention when there is something important to be heard, such as a major theme event. The sound effects serve many purposes and they also organize the text by setting certain settings with different tones so the reader does not get lost in the audio book.…

The film “Truman Show” reveals theme and tone by lighting, cinematography, and editing, and by the use of sound. By using lightning, cinematography and editing, the theme of this film - facing with fear can lead to the discovery of realization - and the bewildering tone is achieved. With the use of sound, the meaning of this theme is further achieved, and the audience questions the “realism” of the story. As the story develops in this film, it becomes obvious to the audience that Truman is on a 24/7 reality TV show.…

REVIEW OF HACKSAW RIDGE: Good war-films can be very disturbing to watch. The dramatic realism of modern digital effects spares little and many audiences will find Hacksaw Ridge one of the most violent sensory assaults that can be experienced in a cinema. If it were not a true story that celebrates an unusual hero the film could have been accused of a glamourous display of unrelenting carnage.…

This current semester I am enrolled in Professor Zack’s Media Production I class. Our first project of the semester was a silent film that would focus on someone or something involving a lock and a key while expressing an emotion. This project wasn’t a solo project, but instead involved working with one other person. The lock and key could be metaphoric or literal and from that concept we had to tell a story in twelve to fifteen shots. Our idea was to convey a young musician finding the right “key” on his guitar and “unlock” the excitement (which was our assigned emotion) inside of him.…
