Shared Reading Reflection

Great Essays
Wow! A first full week is a busy!! I feel that we are all trying to figure things out! Overall, I feel that I am getting more comfortable with the project and my clients. It was also nice to witness shared reading by the pros. I hope to get to that level one day. I am also learning how to be a better reading buddy! I’m learning how to change my level of mediation based on the material and what the client needs. I am also figuring out how to do that therapeutic effect. It is one thing to just read with someone but a whole other to slip in those strategies.
I am also learning how to do a cooperative learning group. CLG take a lot more planning then expected. I tended to go overboard with what I thought we could do the first two days. I realized

Most of our books for shared reading had repetitive text. However, the client has not really picked up that the book is repetitive yet. However, with some time, strategies and practice I feel that he will pick this up. Overall, LP lacks confidence when reading and tends to rely heavy on his partner. I feel that his caregiver may just read the word for him when he gets frustrated. Also, if a page has a lot text LP sometimes reads a word above or below the actual text line. So if the sentence says, “I’m going on a bear hunt.” He may read it as “ I am going to field hunt”. In this made up example, the sentence before “I’m going on a bear hunt” had the word field above this sentence. Or he will began reading the sentence and finish reading the sentence below what we are reading. So I am curious on what to do with when this occurs. I just orient him back to the sentence and ask if what he just read makes sense. Overall, LP mainly does text in substitution based on graphophonemic similarities. It also should be noted that in most cases the words are similar only based on first letter. This will be the main goal to tackle for the …show more content…
He enjoys informative writing. He is not a fan of the creative writing. He also does not have varied sentence structure when writing and does not like assistance. He has told me not to look at something until he has finished a paragraph. In these instances, I just let him go on writing. I also think his initial writing sample was not representative of his true abilities.
AB has great organizational skill when writing. For example, during his first story he had three chapters. The first chapter listed the elements. The second one had the how each element was the strongest. The third chapter was about the weakest element. When picking his title though, I think he picked something cool. I don’t think he related to what he actually wrote (even though elements do help us). His second story is about shields. He has only written about two sentences thus

My case study student is a second grader who loves mystery books, video games and playing with friends. My first day in the classroom before being assigned my case study student, I almost immediately bonded with my case study student over the stories of Goosebumps, after that he constantly asked me to sit with him during lunch and asked me for help. I would consider him to have a limited internal dialogue because he often says whatever is on his mind, but it frequently turns out hilarious and gives his audience of peers a good chuckle. The literacy portion each day is centered around the daily five and in one station they walk to reading. The students work on a new high frequency word where they have to an antonym, synonym, a rhyme and write…

These recordings were used for the sole purpose of interobserver agreement (IOA). When the researcher was listening to the records, they had the same paper the tutor used to document the misread words. Interobserver agreement was computed by dividing the number of agreements (words read correctly and words read incorrectly) by the total number of words in the text. The total number of words represented the total possible agreements and disagreements. The agreement between the tutor and researcher was 100%.…

As many teachers search for new strategies and interventions to address the lack of fluency within their reading programs, Repeated Reading (RR) appears to be a topic of curiosity. RR is an evident based strategy designed to increase reading fluency and comprehension through the development of automatic word processing and contextualized linguistic effect (Winter, 2007). Similar to the text features on a cell phone, automatic word processing is the ability to detect and comprehend a word effortlessly as the viewer glares to the next set of letters. This skill is key in increasing fluency as the reader spends little time decoding the words before them.…

For strategy section IV, I selected the strategy read-aloud plus because I believed I could successfully incorporate this strategy into my lessons in order to fully benefit Sophia. I chose to implement this strategy because it would provide Sophia with the most beneficial learning experience possible. This strategy is important because it incorporates the modeling of fluent expressive reading of English text with techniques for clarifying vocabulary, while periodically checking for understanding and providing activating knowledge to help make connections between text and personally experiences. This strategy involves the teacher reading the text aloud to the student while providing periodic paraphrasing and other extensions. 3.…

As a young child at school, we had the Accelerated Reading Program. It was a program that encouraged children to read various books, and then after to take a quiz based on the books. This program really helped me, because the program pushed me to read more. Since I am bilingual, learning two languages as a child was a bit challenging for me, and learning how to read was even harder. I would sometimes mix up letters, vowels, and sometimes talk in Russian when I was supposed to talk in English.…

My approach to reading has changed over the semester. Before this class, I would just read without taking notes. In reading, I would just read instead of looking up the difficult word or using context clues to figure out what the word means. Now during my reading I annotate and look up unknown vocabulary words. When I look up the difficult word, I would find the closest appropriate definition.…
