I Am David Character Traits

Hard working, determined, serious, and honesty all helped David elude the concentration camp and achieve his goal of making it to Denmark. In the novel I Am David, By Anne Holm, a 12 year old boy must journey to Denmark to deliver a letter to the authorities. He faces many problems along the way and discovers new things that he had never seen before in the concentration camp. He then finds his mother in Denmark at the end of the novel. Four character traits that helped David succeeded in the novel are hard working, serious, determined, and honest, and are going to be discussed in this character analysis. Even though things were rough for David during his journey, his hard work got him through it. When the two English people felt bad for not trusting David they offered him money, but he did not accept it saying that he wanted to earn his money. That shows that he's not a beggar, but he is a hard worker. Another example is that in the train station, he helped tourist carry their luggage to earn money. It also took a lot of hard work to save Maria from the fire. A normal kid his age would have accepted that money form the English couple but he thought he needed to earn it. Without his determination, he probably would have quit before he made it to Denmark. One example that shows that David was determined was on pages 1-7 when he escaped the camp. He did not stop and he was determined to get out. Another example was at the end of the first chapter when it says that he did not want to die, he wanted to live. And throughout the novel, it mentions, it mentions that he was determined to live. He was also determined to find his mother at the end of the text. His determination helped him get to Denmark without giving up, but what got him there without being caught was how serious the journey was to
