Assignment I: Political Continuum Lluvia Herrera Policy I: Understanding Social Welfare Policy Wichita State University Assignment I: Political Continuum After taking the Political Typology quiz my results described me as hard-pressed skeptic. When reading the description I can say that I agree with some of it, for example I am distrustful of the government because I don't believe that they are corrupt and do what is best for a specific group of individuals and not the entire United States. I definitely lean more to the Democratic side, I believe that good things come with hard work, however; I also believe that some individuals need extra help to get things to happen.…

Doctor Russell Kirk, is a name that I never had heard of much less even understood his significance in American history and politics before I started at Emporia. While identifying as a Conservative for most of my life (Please forgive me, but my parents were “New Deal” Democrats and I was young at the time); I never understood the philosophy or the background of the Conservative movement. More importantly, I never connected faith and personal values into what it meant to be a Conservative. I grew up as a child of the 1960s cocooned in Middle America beliefs. I watched on TV of the national backlash towards many of the values that represented Middle America by what later would be deemed their cornerstone of the future Progressives of the…

On the Political Typology quiz, my results showed that I am a Solid Liberal. On the Political Party quiz, my results showed that I am a Liberal Democrat. I was honestly surprised by the results because I knew I fell on the Liberal side of the spectrum, but I didn’t know I was a strong Liberal. Questions about gay marriage had me feeling conflicted because as a Christian my religion teaches me not to approve of gay marriage, but then again I ask myself if I was in their position how would I feel if someone told me I can’t marry the person I love due to the law prohibiting it. I also had questions that were easy for me to answer like the question asking whether Muslims should face more scrutiny in the US or the one asking if the US needed to…

We can look at riots from particular perspectives by examining social order and disorder through “riots” and their relationship to the political ideologies of “conservatism” and “radicalism”. These two ideologies have decidedly different viewpoints of the causes and meanings of riots and the effect they have in promoting change, or as a result , the “strengthening” of social order.…

The conservatism of George H.W. Bush came from similar ideological roots as Ronald Reagan, but was different when it came to execution, particularly in domestic policy. The most noticeable similarities come in foreign policy. Both presidents believed that America must take a leading role and intervene to protect American interests. For Bush, he demonstrated with Operation Desert Storm where he launched, “Massive bombing of Iraqi portions of Kuwait, as well as Baghdad and other Iraqi cities. The ground war, which began on February 24, took only 100 hours to force Saddam Hussein's troops out of Kuwait” (Faragher 911).…

Conway’s comparison between the “feminist and “conservative woman” is extremely inaccurate and uses false generalizations to create a statement that she sees as a fact. Her argument is filled with stereotypes and bias views. She makes states that feminist have a problem of woman in power, which could not be further from the truth. Statistically, the majority of feminist voters have voted for Hilary Clinton, and increasing the number of women in government is a big topic of discussion. Conway also states that feminist are anti male, rather than saying that woman are against the systems in place that allow men to prosper while constricting women’s ability to thrive.…

The 2016 election was a result of the large division in our nation in which people of certain races, financial status, gender, and ethnicity were looked down upon by other members of society. Prejudgment of others ran rampant throughout our nation after citizens began to turn against others, causing a deep barrier to be formed. The formation of this barrier was a result of the tendencies of people to be afraid of others that are depicted as being different from themselves, either socially, culturally, or physically, all driven by the fear of the unknown. As a society depicts a group of individuals as different, this barrier continues to grow, creating groups that are socially accepted by society and groups that are viewed as outcasts or dangers…
