I Am An Environmental Scientist Essay

College is the time when you find out who you truly are and discover yourself as a person, but at the beginning of the school year, I had no idea what I wanted to do. During the first week of the semester, I was informed about GST 110 and how there were multiple seats available. Even though only two credits were offered for this course, I saw this as an opportunity to learn more about myself and get an idea of what I want to pursue in the future. At first, I had the desire to be an environmental scientist. It made sense at the time; I enjoyed the subject, and wanted to make the world a better place. Upon further research, I had discovered that ecology is not a very popular major, and such a major doesn’t exist in SUNY Oswego. In fact, I had found out that there is a school in Syracuse called environmental science and forestry. The closest thing to ecology was biology, which I believe are two vastly different things, and from what I’ve heard, is a very difficult major to pursue. This made me reevaluate what I wanted to do and the careers that would best suit me. After multiple assessments, I have come to the conclusion that one of the majors best suited for me is sociology. I like to keep my options open, the power of choice, and sociology does just that because it is a very diverse major that can lead to numerous job opportunities, while still being able to make a difference in the world Additionally, in my introduction class to sociology, I find it enlightening to learn…
